I know this may not be the place for this question, but here goes anyway...

How do you know if vinyl is a first pressing?

For instance "live on ten legs" is available in the goods section right now, but what pressing is it?
The road goes on forever and the party never ends....

It's the first pressing... Are you confusing it with Live On Two Legs?

  • Yeah I was. Just figured that out... I'm an idiot.

Do they mark secondary pressing as such though?

I might be wrong but apart from Ten and all the remasters, there's never been a second pressing of any of the albums.

  • I think what he's asking is, how do you tell a new pressing of VS from the original? Same with Vitalogy, ITW etc

I think that's why pjcollectors.com exists, right? I always check before I buy something off eBay  Not sure about other vinyl...

It would be great if PJ did 2nd and 3rd pressings of albums... Some labels will mark an album 2nd,3rd,whatever press some will use a different color vinyl... I'm pretty sure you're correct on that mookey....Not sure that the white Backspacer would qualify as a 2nd press, considering they probably had them done at the same time as the black...

    Suzie speaks the truth :D

pjcollectors.com is THE best resource to look up serial numbers on your Pearl Jam LP's

Like Suzie, I never buy a piece of wax before checking with this site first. Follow this link to the LP section of pjcollectors.com

Have a blast and educate yourself...

Careful though, a Pearl Jam vinyl obsession can be (is) a very expensive hobby

Also, look at the back of the LP. A lot of times you will see both of the copyright dates, for instance I believe the new Vitalogy has both Copyright 2011 and 1994 on the back. The other way is by entering the UPC into google and that will usually be a good indicator. Also, you can plug that catalogue number into google to see if its a newer release or an older release. If its something othan than PJ albums you are trying to tell other indicators are the lable (old Metallica stuff is on Megaforce, Music For Nations, Elektra, newer is on Warners Brothers).
