This is awesome stuff.

"The discovery of this particle is fundamental to our understanding of how the Universe works."

More God discussion.. They often refer to it as the God Particle. "So, what happens when they finally spot the God particle? Obviously, the the destruction of all the Universe. But before that, all those physicists will throw a huge party and get pissed." :)
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

I posted this on the Aet forum and minimal responses from people. :?

This is some pretty damn cool stuff!

Isn't this taking place in the particle collider that could potentially create a black hole that would suck us all in? If so, see you all on the way down. Yeah, I know, they say it's "safe", the chances of something going wrong are "slight". Ever heard that one before? Seriously, is it worth the risk and cost? Wouldn't it make more sense to use this money to solve the problem of too much CO2 in the atmosphere? Or cure AIDS, Smallpox, Cholera, Ebola, Malaria, Bubonic Plague, Alzheimer's, Typhus, etc., etc.?

They are talking about this explaining the universe, using knowledge learned from it to make supercomputers.. indirectly, it could possibly solve all of the above problems. Immagine being able to track and teleport the excess CO2 out of our atmosphere?

    It's crazy stuff..

Yes, I do agree that would be very cool. Unfortunately, so far the technological side of our science has been more capable and efficient at polluting the planet and killing that at solving problems such as environmental degradation and disease. I know that sounds pessimistic and I really am trying to find some hope in this world but it's that "Puzzling Evidence" that makes it hard to do so.

Do you want to save humans or the planet? Diseases are natures way of controling population. Cure all diseases and there's more of us to suck the life out of the planet.. Only way this planet will be healthy again is if we go back to hunting and gathering and there's atleast 6 billion less of us.. I don't think the world is designed to support this many of us without it being turned upside down. Our numbers have only been this high for a few generations, a blink of an eye in the history of mother nature.. just wait until she catches up.

If you haven't, read Ishmael.. interesting read.

Excellent points, Gob. To answer your question, I'm an idealist- maybe too much so. I want to save the planets and the humans-- but of course I want humans to get right about populations issues as well. Animals without conscious reasoning reproduce as fast as possible without thought. We could consciously limit our number while reducing the risk a death by disease- something no other species can do for themselves.

Again though (and sorry if this is off topic), good point about population. According to the World Population Clock the human population right now is 6,980,270,460. When I was born the world's population was 2,593,000. That's a pretty scary thought-- I mean the population, not when I was born.

And yes, thanks for the reminder, Ishmael is on my list of "to be read".
