Hi folks, sorry if this has been asked before... so I'm in Australia, and I'm trying to convince my husband that we should catch a European show next year... :) My son would be 4 - reckon he'd be OK at a stadium show? Foreign country and all makes me extra nervous. What are your thoughts? Who has taken their kids to PJ concerts successfully? Cheers.

  • I wouldn't, if I were you. Not at 4. 8, maybe, but definitely not 4. Aside the safety issue - which if you've got seats or you stay to the sides or back, would probably be fine - ask yourself would he enjoy it, would he get anything out of it. I think it's pretty unlikely. Might be a different story if you're talking about a festival, but I can't see a kid of that age enjoying a stadium show.

Does he really like them? Cause it seems pretty young to be seeing a show, and those will be pretty long nights for a 4-year-old.
I'd suggest getting seats - I've read manchester has seated 10C tickets as well. The whole GA procedure is just too much to handle for someone that young, and I've never been to a concert with a kid, but I've seen many of them there, and I know they don't enjoy themselves when they can't see. Get some good kind of ear protection for him too, and I think you'll be fine. For the shows, I'd suggest going to Scandinavia...people there are super child friendly, and there'll be a lot of stuff for your son to enjoy too.
  • Definitely seated. But I don't think he'll get much out of it. Only if Unthought Known is played as that's his fave. Hehe. Anyway, I think I'll spend most of the night worrying about him. I think I answered my own question. :)
  • Thanks Kathi. Yeah, absolutely no way would I have him in GA. Hmmmmmmmm.
  • Providing your seated I would have no qualms taking him. We took our son to his first show a couple of months after his 5th birthday (Doves, since you asked :p). It was an outdoor show in a forest in the UK (they run a lot of them) and kids were free. We kept away from the front and he was absolutely fine.

We'll be taking him to the Manchester show in June next year, though he'll be 8 then. Start them early!!

My first show was Therapy? the night before my 14th birthday. I'd love to have seen so many great bands well before then!
  • young kid at the Chris Cornell show last week and the mom afterwards goes, "You'll appreciate this when you're older." Bullshit - he ain't gonna remember anything from it, maybe that he was there and what's the point of that?

No. I really don't mean to come across as a dick, but just don't. The foreign country is already so much to take in. And ask yourself, would he be ok at the show for YOU? Or would he be ok for HIM? It'll be loud, long, a LOT of people who don't speak english possibly... Don't do it.

  • Yeah it's not going to happen. I've thought about it some more. It would be a cool thing for about 15 seconds and then he'll get restless, and I won't be able to enjoy myself. And that will be a great tragedy indeed.

    truthfully...my opinion...my expierience...

the older they get...longer they wait...

the much better time they have...and much more they appreciate it....

my son seen his 1st show at 12...

prolly waited 2 or 3 years too long...

so i agree with the ...8 - 10 yrs is prolly the best bet...my o...

PS...at my sons first show when he was 12...he knew 3/4's of the songs for sure...i was so proud...
  • The first time we took our kid to a show, he was 9. I guess that would be a good age.... I don't about when the kid is 4... It was a RHCP show in Germany this october... We had seats, that was good idea in my opinion...

Yeah, I agree with the others, 4 is too young. Wait until he's at least 8 or 9.
