Seems weird.

Was wondering if anyone has heard of extended or added dates?

  • Considering the state of Italy at the moment, I bet PJ get much more money playing Scandinavia and big festivals etc.

Yeah but still they can sell out any show in Italy and that is the best place for the PJ shows. I mean I don't mind that they are going to Scandinavia it was a time to come back there but still no Italy is sad thing for EU tour

well they really trying to avoid "risky" countries. god knows what italy, spain, portugal, greece will be using as their currency in summer. there are serious bets the whole euro idea will not survive over new years eve ... really not surprised seeing them doing SEK, NOK, DKK, GBP next year ...

  • Guys, you're talking about Italy without living here, so you better stop talking about us like if we were a poor Third World country.
Yes, the new government called for "blood, sweat and tears", but no one here is queuing nor will queue for bread, right? We have no homeless wandering around like in downtown L.A.
The problem regarding Italy (I know nothing about other countries so I won't talk about them) is that there's only one promoter in contact with PJ and he definitely wants PJ to play at a Festival, i.e. the Heineken Jammin Festival (they already played there in 2010 and had to play in 2007 too but the concert was cancelled due to a terrible storm few hours before going on stage), but the Festival has been moved from early July to early June.
We hope he's gonna change his mind and choose another location (the Arena of Verona would be wonderful and PJ love that place!) instead of wasting time tryin' to move a Festival he doesn't own.
If you want to know the "state" of Italy, ask Springsteen who'll be holding 3 concerts here next summer, or Radiohead holding 4...
Don't let your minds getting f*** up by the dirty manoeuvres of the major economical powers: nothing is as it seems... ;-)

I might be completely wrong, but doesn't big bands/artists get paid up front for doing a show? So the perceived chance of selling all the tickets just increases the amount the bands can ask for beforehand? The exception to this being the absolute biggest acts, like Rihanna who demanded the right to receive 80% of box office ticket receipts over $565,000 for her latest tour.

Jeremy69: No one is saying Italy is a third world country, but you can't deny the problems Italy and many other European countries are facing.
  • Anarion, I'm not denying anything, believe me that I'm well aware of the situation in my country, but thinking that PJ don't (yet) come to Italy because of the economical situation is senseless.
Springsteen and Radiohead (as well as other artists) will be holding concerts in Italy, Spain and Portugal next summer, so why talking about economics?
I've been to Barcelona on holiday last month and I've seen no poverty around...
I'll be going to Amsterdam, Werchter and Berlin for PJ and I'm no rich man, friends of mine will go to 6-7 Springsteen or Radiohead concerts all over Europe, and they're not rich as well...
The point is that PJ don't play stadiums and have little time to tour Europe, besides discussing facts with a stupid Italian promoter  , otherwise we could benefit of a good Italian leg like in 2006... ;)

I'm usually not a big fan of Italian crowds (mostly cause at all shows I've gone to there people seemed overly bored & genereally unreceptive, walked off before encores, etc.) but I'm thinking this is different for PJ, so I would've really like to see them there. The arena in Verona is a super magical place to see a concert in, plus it's only a 2.5 hour drive from my hometown..

And yes, our economic situation is bad, really bad, and most of us will now probably work til we're about 80, but we still have a solid middle class and no raging poverty around.

Sorry, but this interpretation is quite sad.

Some band called Radiohead is going to play 4 shows in Italy next summer.
Either they are completely out of their mind or they don't share the same money concerns as Pearl Jam.

I don't think so, even I'm hoping...

North Europe tour is awesome. Italy is just a dream of mine and having listened to all the Italian shows on boot makes me wish this could happen.

I'm pretty sure Italy is the band's favorite place to play in Europe, so I was just a little shocked...not even 1 date.

I don't think the economy has anything to do with it, I agree with the Radiohead and Springsteen statement. To be honest, those bands are bigger than PJ and they are putting multiple shows on.

    PS: Berlin...July 4th is PJ, 6th and 7th is Radiohead :D

  • The show in Pistoia was magical. What a great venue, what a great crowd, what a great night.

Is this a thread about people not happy even though they have PJ in Europe and within reach to see?

    I love these threads!

There haven't been that many shows in Italy in the last decade or so, 2 in 2000, 5 in 2006, 1 cancelled in 2007 and 1 in 2010. For a country with such an enthusiastic audience and great venues, yes this is a shame and considering the comments from Ed on the IIC dvd you'd think they had some love affair with the place and would tour it extensively. Today's financial climate means things will always be different and festivals will dictate big bands touring schedules but do you know what? The band aren't in their 20's anymore and you should be thankful for those 5 shows in 2006 because you're not likely to get any more than 2 in future on any tour. There is a pattern here and the band like to tease just enough to keep or gain popularity and create their own mythology by being skimpy with the tour dates just like they do with any piece of merchandise worth having. You want multiple shows on each tour you'd better be prepared to spend your cash on little else throughout the year because they're going to make you travel for them. There are countries who have waited much longer than you to see a show in their homeland and I'm not saying you should have to do without but if you had say, 3 shows on this tour at the expense of Scandinavia then I would find that really unfair. Every dog has it's day. Unless it happens to be Scottish! ;)
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12
  • The south has had there share of shows. I bet it's better in all ways for PJ to play down there and not the nordic countries... but maybe after 12 years they felt they had to :)
