just because a famous actor or rock star makes a comment or a statement about a current event
people seem to hang on every word like this actor or rock star is a gleaming becon of knowledge
don't people understand that these people are no different than you or I ?...I mean really if you wanted info on how to be a billionare why would you ask the 50 year old waiter at Denny's how to do it ?.
wouldn't you seek out a billionare to ask these questions.

"Its called a Grand Slam, ma'am. You have the choice of either bacon or sausage. Please keep your drunk feet off the tables and put your clothes back on!"
Sounds like you're a bit too familiar with Denny's policies!
Godfather, anyone in particular spur your rant?
There are only a few I follow closely enough to hear their political rants...PJ and Anne Rice.
sometimes I agree with Ed, but I try to do some research before coming to any conclusions.
Anne Rice on the other hand is about 70 years old and her facebook page is alive with tons of her personal opinions on very controversial things. I tend to agree with her on a bunch of things.
I dont always agree with everyone out there but try to find the common thread between everyone. If we all agreed an were completely mindless, life would be boring. status quo and quite zombie-ish. (or in short, we can become all Murdoch Fox Viewers! )
Do you mean actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura and Ronald Reagan?
Hail, Hail!!!
Who else are we missing? Mr. Eastwood. I'd put an asterisk next to Alec Baldwin for the future, but I think he may have went insane in the last year. If he decides to run for office, then we will know he is truly insane.
thinking they 'know' them sort of when they do not at all.
As far as rock stars they can stir a mixture of emotions and admiration
fall into an idol roll.
Both actors and rock stars also have sex appeal
which can make people lose good judgment.
Maybe its just that they are plain old well liked ... therefore trusted.
I dont watch television.
Could it be people are so isolated in this world that they identify with people they see on the tele? Only source of interaction they are getting with the outside world?
Just the other day, I had a person talking to me the other day about a close person in drug rehab. They spoke so convincingly about these people, I assumed it was one of their family members. Then they said Celebrity Rehab.
I was like OMFG.
The guy can make/collaborate on his own schedule, thanks to the money he's made with the band....that leaves him with more free time to study topics of interest. He also has access to people and places we typically do not. How many of you have spent time with guys like Zinn and Chomsky? He considered Zinn a friend, which would lead me to believe that he spent a fair amount of time with him....you'd think that would have to be somewhat enlightening....
Of course, this doesn't mean that what they say is gospel...but I think people sometimes dismiss celeb opinions without thinking of the amount of time dedicated to the topic, and the expertise they've had access to.
not on here, it just seems every time I watch the news some celeb said ....then I started to think how WE..most all of us have a habbit of quoting a celeb on some subject from time to time and for the life of me I don't know why a celeb's opinion on anything is more important than mine...shit I'll do interviews and give opinions if the money is right

I think you have to be Pretty, Ugly people's opinions aren't worth much, unless your talented in some other fashion.
just because they got a lucky break eventually doesn't mean they don't have a thing or two of worth to say, so don't hang on their every word but also don't take their word at face value, i would think thats good advice about anyone to be honest
I opened, worked on the graveyard shift Denny's Mercury Blvd Hampton Va for my college years dishwasher trainer, cook and finally a waiter. Located not far from the Hampton Coliseum we rock stars of all sorts pass through and it seems after shows most seemed at peace even with drunks all around and most had no clue who they were.
I waited on David Byrne, David Lee Roth, Rick James, ACDC +road crew, Grorge Clinton, The Greatful Dead many more sadly never RUSH all were very very kool. Not sure if it was because it was 3am but they liked that I was a fan and I was at their shows. Gave me tour stuff and most of all tipped me welleven though they were very demanding. I told most of them I'll go back to my apt and check their videos on MTV even though some didn't have any as yet my early 80's charm.
Peace

agree 100%. but there's also the flipside to it.....if they sneeze, people put the picture of the slow motion capture on the front page of the paper calling it "breaking news".
I've never understood why anyone gives any more of a shit about celebrities or politicians or athletes than your everyday joe.
I was watching TSN (Canada's ESPN) and on came an interview with Lebron James. He talked about how losing the NBA championship was the lowest point of, no, not his career, but his fucking LIFE. How priveledged is this fucking dick that his biggest failure is not being the best in the world? THIS is who people aspire to be like and put posters on their wall?
I admire the single mother of 4 working 3 jobs just to make ends meet, not winning a championship of anything, much more admirable in character.

Another thought: If we have 15 seconds of fame maybe we should all get 15 seconds of prime time news headlines. Everyone is important in their own right.
