More Maddening than flippers - Flipping record store owners!
Ok,
Magnitude normally likes to keep it light and loves to promote partying but there are somethings that can't go unnoticed. We all know flippers kinda suck and make getting our hands on PJ vinyl a bit more difficult but my frustration is against record store owners who go on eBay, deprive their customers of buying a record all so that they can sell it for an inflated price.
In my opinion these record store owners are worse than flippers. I feel like any record store caught doing this should not be sent Pearl Jam vinyl or any limited vinyl (RSD, anyone?) because all they do is take it from their stockroom to the post office right after they have sold it on eBay. Mind you, record stores that sell on eBay usually sell at a price less than what the flippers are charging but they still usually price point around a 100% markup.
My rant is directed at a select few and is not indicative of all record shops. This rant has been inspired by Pearl Jam Twenty vinyls not being available at a record store after noticing that said record store sold 10 of them on Ebay just yesterday.
and as always POP POP!
PS: Community is on tonight at 8, nbc - you should watch it! Its the funniest show on TV that you are probably not watching!

I love the experience of going to a store and browsing for a album to take home. These stores are having a hard time making ends meet in the current state of the industry so resorting to these activities makes it more feasible for them to stay open for us who love to browse.
Hate the system that has created the demand rather than those trying to make ends meet by taking advantage of it.

F Me In The Brain thinks that Poor Record Store Owner needs to do whatever Poor Record Store Owner can do to keep Poor Record Store in business so that F Me In The Brain might continue to shop there.
Flipping at a Record Store = OK
Flipping on Ebay = Bad
Flipping on LD Forum= Kinda Bad
Got it.
The thing is I am TRYING to support them. It is frustrating to try and buy from a store that states they are sold out but clearly sold 10 copies yesterday on Ebay. While their plan to flip these records may help cover bills and other expenses it certainly doesn't earn them any customers to their store or any loyalty to their establishment.
I know the issue is not black/white but businesses who value their customers will retain their customers better than business who don't. I don't feel like a valued customer when I'm basically told "I'd sell you this record but since you are only looking to pay retail and not double the price I'll choose the guy on Ebay."
I'm also well versed in the argument of "If you don't like the prices don't buy or go elsewhere" however, this is not what my OP was trying to state. It was simply pointing out that record stores themselves are engaging in some of the same practices that make owning and operating a successful record store so difficult in this day and age.

I've heard some record stores have had their RSD privileges stripped b/c of "flipping".
:-)
I learned not to trust the store in Rochester (where I used to live) after I ordered Into the Wild from them. They ordered it for me, it came in, (one of the employees called me) and then when I arrived to pick it up, it had "mysteriously" disappeared.
Apparently, the guy that ordered it for me found out from someone else that they could sell it for lots of money so they sold the copy I had ordered to someone else. :?
I was more than a bit surprised that they could be so disreputable! In the time it took me to drive over there, they made it disappear.
