So you hear about some kid who did something stupid, something desperate; what possessed him?
How could he do such a terrible thing?
Well, it's really quite simple, actually.
Consider the life of a teenager - you have parents, teachers telling you what to do, you have movies, magazines and TV telling you what to do, but you know what you have to do. Your job, your purpose is to get accepted, get a cute girlfriend, think up something great to do with the rest of your life.
What if you're confused and can't imagine a career?
What if you're funny looking and can't get a girlfriend?
You see, no-one wants to hear it. But the terrible secret is that being young is sometimes less fun than being dead.
We're all worried, we're all in pain.
That just comes with having eyes and having ears.
But just remember one thing - it can't get any worse, it can only get better.
High school is the bottom, being a teenager sucks, but that's the point, surviving it is the whole point. Quitting is not going to make you stronger, only living will.
So just hang on and hang in there.

    :problem: :eh: :wtf:
It's incredibly disheartening for me to think that people encourage teenagers to make these things their PURPOSE. In my opinion, it would be more beneficial to: 1) stress to teens the importance of having one's own opinion (especially about what their 'purpose' should be); 2) teach teens that success in doing something 'great' with their life is completely subjective; and 3) encourage travelling and seeing the world in order to see that people are incredibly diverse...and the ways in which people live aren't limited to only what their used to seeing in their familiar little box.

Yes, things can get better as you age (unbelievably so, in fact)...however; it's important for teenagers to know that they have to be actively engaged in trying to make their lives better. Simply waiting it out for things to get better until you are no longer a teen will get you nothing...well, except for an attitude of entitlement and a continued life of disappointment.

Wow, this just reminded me how essentially nothing has changed since I was a teenager; although nobody seems to be asking me to hang in there anymore :D Ah, the promise I once had, I think I miss being a teenager now!
