This was my first thought. I thought the OP was referring to the actor that plays him.

Wow, I had no idea he was that old. He was great on MASH and Dragnet.
I'm surprised he wasn't older. He was not exactly a youngster in Dragnet (I guess he was about 50 but he looked older than that) and that was in the mid 60's. By the time of the Dragnet movie in '87 or '88 he looked really old. To tell the truth I thought the dude was already dead.
I'm just glad he lived long enough to see this...
