The Kids are twenty (DVD) - badly interlaced etc?

Watching it (the DVD) right now for the first time, on a upscaling BD-player where I have not have any problems with others DVDs (PAL and NTSC) looking fine on my screen.

But this is "pixelated" and has interlacing issues. Looks shitty, the parts from the Do The Evolution-video for example. But pretty much everyshot. Looking at thumbing my way now and Eddies shoulders are like a flight of stairs... And when it dollys out it looks like a youutbe video..You can't even see the band clearly at all...

I bet it's the player and I will try it on another set. But anyone else who has notices this? The interlacing issues and "low rez/pixelated" look?

And don't say "it's because it's DVD". As I said I have watched several discs (PAL, NTSC) on this system and it upscales just fine and it looks great (PAL more so than NTSC ofc).

No I agree it's truly awful. I have the bluray and it's the same.
I contacted tenclub and they pretty much said they new of no issues with the box sets??? They should watch one. All discs are the same. These have been output to what can only be described as web quality. Awful!!!!! My brother walk into my lounge when I had it on and was like "what the hell is this!" said I should send it back, but that ain't an option cause seems wont get a replacement.
I think they really need to send out properly mastered discs to those who purchased these as they are clearly wrong. Someone's made a big error here.
    Petition?? Lol

When you pay close to 80dollars for a DVD-title it's pretty sad to see it look worse than non-anamorphic singlelayer discs from 1997.

    Haha.

    Quality control through the roof!

But does the BD have interlacing issues, on DO THE EVOLUTION or example? The animated bits and stuff? The BD is progressive so... that should be non-existing if there isn't inherit in the sourcematerial... I bet that issue is because of my player. Will have to check that out.

I was watching footage from the '06 (?) European tour on Kids are Twenty (take Release, for example), and found the same thing - detrimental pixelation in a big way, which is unfortunate, as the sound is so stellar throughout. Was anyone else's packaging damaged, or disc sleeves jammed in and folded on angles making it a tight fit?

It's same throughout all my discs.
And yes, the 'Do the evolution' video is a great example of why these discs are clearly wrong. Just look how pixelated and blocky the girl is for example.

I watched a borrowed copy of the blu-ray but I noticed A LOT of this. I can't remember specifically where it was the most noticeable, but I'm thinking it was on the South America footage. There was a scene where someone was walking down a tunnel or hallway wearing a red jacket (Stone, maybe?) and he looked like a Robotron character.

And yes, the packaging for disc 3 was folded slightly askew.

I have the iTunes version and it plays the same on my Apple TV. Lots of pixelation at times. I was just happy to be able to get this. Hopefully they will release the 3rd disc to iTunes. I have found that the sound is very good and sounds great on my 5.1 channel setup.
  • A lot of the film was like that even in the cinema. Thumbing my way and even footage from 2006 tour were vey pixilated. Nothing to do with your systems/players.
  • Obviously this version is from the same master the cinema-version is from. But I don't remember the Thumbing My way footage looking like this on my screening...

Obviously we saw less of it on the main feautre... but... something has gonne wrong when encoding for BD/DVD or whatever.

I don't know how much input Vinylfilms/Crowe has on it but I know the 2 Almost Famous Bd:s out there got some critisicm too...

But.. yeah... as seen on IIC the footage shot in Verona in 2006 looks great. I can bet my ass that the master files for Chop Seuy (shot on 35?) has better quality. Someone has fucked up along the way or been lazy.

but no one is having interlacing issues with the DVD?

Honestly, it was that bad. I couldn't even tell who it was, like when they have to blur someone out who doesn't sign the consent form for a reality show.

I really wish I could remember exactly what scene it was (or even if it was disc 2 or 3) because I'm curious if anyone else saw the same thing or if it was just me.

I found the same effect on parts of Betterman even, over the majority of the crowd.

Lotta pixelation on the bush-leaguer clip plus Small town on the fans are alright is all outta synch too.
  • The digital artefacts stuff on eddies face during bushleguer I bet is inherit in the original foottage and not the same problem as the rest.

Did notice the out of sync thing on Small Town - what was that all about?

  • Sync issues may be caused by your Blu-ray player (if it's on the Blu-ray copy that is). Update your player's firmware.

As far as interlacing issues, the Blu-ray is in 1080p. So technically speaking, it's not the "disc" is the source material. That's still not much of an excuse though, whoever put it all together was just lazy.

The blu-ray has the same issues in the places you mentioned and a few others. I was wondering why the DTE animation looked like that when it was fine in the Touring Band DVD.

  • My regular dvd kids are 20 disc is pixelated in the beginning, for like the first two songs.

I also got dicked on the packaging, the label on the boxset wasn't even applied w/glue, so when i opened it, it just fell off.
