My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12

HAHAHA...I expected this as well....I am a few years away from needing a new computer honestly....That said, I am SERIOUSLY considering a MAC for my next, just to say I gave them a shot.....Just not in need as of yet, but thank you for the idea!

While in the "Startup" tab, hover your mouse arrow over the lines that separate the column headings "Command" and "Location." Double-click when your mouse arrow changes into a cross looking thing. That will expand the column so you can see everything in that column. Now, scroll down through there and see if any of the entries look familiar. The ones you recognize that you know you don't need (like msnmsgr.exe for MSN Messenger, or mobsync.exe for synchronization manager) just uncheck. The ones you aren't sure about, do a search on Google. What you want to Google are the words in the "Startup Item" column and/or the file name in the "Command" column. The file name will more than likely end in .exe. Make sure you spell everything correctly when you do your Googling.
Here's an example of what you'd type in the Google search:
windows xp startup disable zlclient.exe

Apply in person
Im actually a mac user, but I hate that response...It fulfills all the "Mac Stereotypes". That being said, I was in the same boat you are in, computer started to run slow after a few good years, ran config, and did all the things I needed to do to keep it working. Just prolonged the process. Computer eventually crashed completely. I was considering "trying" a Mac, I did...and couldnt be happier. Not everyone feels the need to get one, but Im glad I did, and I dont see switching back to PC's anytime soon.
Completely off topic but I can see your question was already answered.
here is a short answer for you, though thunderclaps answer is pretty good:
1. anything that under the "location" header does NOT start with "HKLM" (Hot Key Local Machine -- Your registry) can be turned off.
OPTIONAL
2. anything that IS in "HKLM" folder under the "Location" heading, EXCEPT for those which are listed
a. under "command" as in the "c:\windows" folder
b. not in a folder under "command", just a ".exe" file
Disabling everything from "1." here should get the job done.
If you do the stuff in 2 (which will probably have negligible impact on your performance), just make sure to turn it back on in your next couple of sessions. Some of that stuff is gonna be proprietary computer software (like power management) and some of it is java, or quicktime, or maybe your antivirus.
Mmm k?
If I opened it now would you not understand?
THANKS to EVERYONE for the HELP!! I do appreciate it!!
