Hi.
I want to share the e-mail I have send some minutes ago to the Ten Club.
In order to know your point of view.
Let me know.
Thanks.
Andrea
"Some premise to what I want to tell you:
- I'm 10c member since 2005; actually I'm in the "grace period" (my membership expired October 31th).
- I have added many years ago all yours e-mail address (<!-- e --><a href="mailto:donotreply@lists.pearljam.com">donotreply@lists.pearljam.com</a><!-- e -->, <!-- e --><a href="mailto:info@tenclub.net">info@tenclub.net</a><!-- e -->, <!-- e --><a href="mailto:returns@tenclub.net">returns@tenclub.net</a><!-- e -->, <!-- e --><a href="mailto:shipping@tenclub.net">shipping@tenclub.net</a><!-- e -->, <!-- e --><a href="mailto:webmaster@tenclub.net">webmaster@tenclub.net</a><!-- e -->) to my address book: no risk of e-mail losses.
Ok, I can start:
I honestly do not understand.
I do not understand the way you behave with the ten club members. Especially with the international members.
More generally, I do not understand your marketing strategy.
Last year, you have doubled the 10c fee (analog) by simply adding a t-shirt to what was already provided in previous years.
Sometimes you propose some stuff on your store with the words "for members only - limit to one per member" and, a couple of hours after the pre-sale start, everything goes out of stock.
But at least one article per member is produced? I would say no, because I never get to buy one of them.
I live in Italy, 9 hours ahead of you (GMT +1). If you send an e-mail to alert the fans about the sale of a particular object in a limited edition, it comes to me in the middle of the night, and every time, when the next morning I read the e-mail, I go the store and I find the object sold out.
In the latter case (PJ20 O.S.T. vinyl edition), I haven't received any information e-mail.
When you put an object in a limited edition pre-order, you never write if there is a dead-line beyond which the product can no longer be purchased.
Since your policy is to charge the amount of pre-order immediately on credit card, I prefer to buy as late as possible. The only deadline I find, however, is the item release date, which is often quite after the object has become out of stock.
Some specific examples?
- The PJ20 Deluxe edition (DVD or Blu Ray) was "available for preorder ... release date October 25th": it went out of stock on October 14th.
- The vinyl edition of the PJ20 soundtrack was in pre-order phase since November 23: sold out within few hours.
- Alpine Valley concert poster: the same.
- The 10c vinyl edition of Into The Wild: the same.
- PJ20 PATAGONIA REFUGIO BACKPACK: I received the information by e-mail september 21th at 5 A.M. and, at 12 A. M., I found this product sold out.
... and so on ...
Would you like to see some side-effects of your limited editions policy?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pearl-jam-twent ... 27c0bed748
(PJ20 Deluxe BluRay: nearly $ 236 and still increasing)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pearl-Jam-Twent ... 0902831692?
(PJ20 Deluxe DVD: nearly $ 433)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pearl-Jam-Twent ... 2569e5e073
(PJ20 O.S.T. vinyl: $ 155 and still increasing)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEALED-Pearl-Ja ... 2c6129f611
(SEALED Pearl Jam Blu-Ray Twenty Deluxe Box Set & Patagonia Refugio Backpack PJ20: $ 975)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDDIE-VEDDER-IN ... 4ab126a60c
(Into The Wild 10c vinyl edition: $ 300)
Well, now there are many questions:
- When you declare "for members only - limit one per member", have you an idea of how many are Ten Club members? It seems obvious that you don't print a copy for each member.
- Your limited editions are then only for USA members? I think so, because the time zone and the fact that usually during the night I sleep precludes to me any purchase.
- Being the case, why take money from international fans promising "Access to Members-only limited edition merchandise PJ such as clothing, special edition silkscreen posters and recordings" (as from http://www.pearljam.com/ten-club/membership-benefits)?
- From a commercial point of view, it is clear that multiple copies of these limited editions would be advantageous for you: you will sale all of them in a few days. So, why not? Because a small group of U.S. fans will have what for the other is foreclosed? To allow speculations as those I have indicated above? International fans do not have the right to purchase exclusive merchandise of the band for which they pay an annual membership fee?
For instance, I want to forget the other questions on the privileges that USA fans have about the shipping policy ...
Honestly, after about six years of membership, I do not know if give you others $ 50.
Please, let me know what you think about.
Regards,
Andrea"

can you suggest another valid section for this topic?
thanks.
The Porch is probably the most appropriate place to post this - similar issues have been discussed there over a period of time. You would certainly get some more responses there - although bear in mind that when these topics come up the forum can get very heated, with people arguing for both sides of coin - so if you do post it there, you might have to be a bit thick skinned, and be prepared for some strong reactions most probably.
There was a recent thread about limited editions here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=176612&hilit=limited+editions
you might want to read that, and decide whether you want to add your post to it, or start a new thread

Thanks for that.
Many thanks for yours suggestions.
I looked at the post that you've reported and I've read some of the replies placed.
The first question I want to raise reading the comments in disagreement with the initial post is: what's wrong is to ask a way to give all 10c members the chance to buy limited editions?
I think that this way of thinking ("I've got, I don't care anything else") is completely contrary to the band's philosophy.
Anyway, the solution would be quite simple: do it as the zombie t-shirts:
at least ten days pre-sale accessible to all members to determine how many copies to produce and then start with the physical item production with the sold out certainty.
In this way, each member could decide whether to use the privileges of it's membership fee or not.
Too hard to think? Or we must have a privileged ten clubbers minority and a majority with only virtually the same privileges (paid)?
Anyhow, I decided to move the post in the Porch section of this forum, just to give it more visibility, since I've received any answer from the 10c to my e-mail.
