If You Live in the US, Read and Are Open Minded, Read On

In an effort to promote a better understanding of what goes on politically, culturally and economically amongst the forum posters/peeps, particularly those who discuss politics on the boards, I’m giving away a one year subscription to a magazine of my choosing. And, no, it will not be one of those magazines that you get just for the articles, sorry. This does not imply that I think anyone is uneducated or ill informed. Rather, its an effort on my part to promote a different understanding of the issues of our day by sending something that might come from a different perspective other than your own (was that repetitive? Sorry, I can’t afford an editor).
I read the posts and political debates and sometimes I laugh, sometimes I get really angry and sometimes I learn something. Sometimes I agree with what folks are saying and sometimes I don’t. But I believe if you open your mind and listen to the other side, we can find common ground and move forward. I believe that and I think that is what makes our country great (although I debate that sometimes). I try to keep an open mind and listen/watch and read from a multitude of sources on all sides of the dial or spectrum or media. So, here goes.
All you have to do to be entered is reply to this post with who you think will be elected president and why. If you have no intention of reading a periodical, please don’t enter. You have to be willing to open your mind somewhat. Also, if you want to post what you read or how you receive the information you rely on to form your opinions, please include it but it is not necessary. I’ll PM the winner with a request for what they currently read so I don’t duplicate the subscription. Sorry but the contest is open to US residents only. Even though there are a great many Canadians and world wide peeps who have a firm grasp of what is going on politically here in the US, wish I were so well read! Contest is open until midnight EST December 25th. I’ll pick a winner by midnight January 1st.
Let us start the New Year with civil discourse and a better understanding of where we agree/disagree and can find common ground. Good luck.
Peace.
Contest closed with no one interested in receiving a periodical. Thus, I've made a donation to the Jamestown Community Farm. They raise fresh organic produce during the growing season for the RI Community Foodbank and other organizations that feed the hungry. Link below if you're interested in making a donation.
Winner would have received one of the following:
The New Yorker
Harper's Magazine
The New Republic
The Economist
Lapham's Quarterly

Jenwah, I sometimes agree with you in that our political system has become hopelessly corrupt due to corporate and big money interests. The "system" may no longer work for the little guys and gals anymore. I've even thought of completely dropping out. No more support for candidates, get rid of the tv, cancel my subscriptions, stop listening to the radio, not even voting. Still wrestling with that one. But I'm not there yet. We'll see. And I too struggle to keep up with all of my reading material, particularly the small print stuff!
Thanks for the responses and be well!
Peace.

I'd like to think i am open minded when it comes to most issues. For example, I see and understand both side of the Gun debate. As a strong believer in the Constitution, I support the 2nd Amendment, but don't think we should have access to any type of gun on the market... like a 105mm Howitzer. Hunting rifles... hand guns (as long as they can be detected by metal detectors and X-Ray machines)... fine. M203 granade launchers... not so much.
That said... I believe it is going to be a race between President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney. I believe Romney's Achilles heel is going to be his religion, as far as the Republican base is concerned. I think it'll be close with Obama winning a second term.
Hail, Hail!!!

How is that in a nutshell?
Today I had to overhear to some old geyser in the lunchroom calling Obama the N word and know nothing on gas production. Keep perpetuating this crap. It will get you nowhere. I might just report him to home office for this bullshit and he can technically fired for use of language. Not only that, it was ugly vile and made me completely uncomfortable.
Oh btw, had to sit through same idiots, conversing with Bill O'Rielly books tucked under their arms too. Who are total fucking idiots. Nevermind, I live in a small town of closed minded redneck creeps who would kill Christ if he came to see them. Perhaps, thats what nobody wants to see.
