It Still Moves is probably the best possible starting point. I'd snag Okonokos(live album or dvd) next, figure out which tunes you like off of that and go from there. It's got alot of Z and It Still Moves, but plenty of earlier tunes as well. Don't be afraid of the last 2 either... Evil Urges or Circuital.

archive.org carries any show of theirs that gets taped(virtually every one) and you can get current shows all the way back to their early days.

    Z is awesome.
I also watch their DVD regualrly - its VERY good.

I can't get into their newest album though.

Great band! I became a fan after seeing them open for PJ in 06 and then drove down to Austin to see them do their own show later that year. I saw Jim James ordering takeout from Stubb's BBQ.

I like all of their early albums up to Z. I didn't care for Evil Urges too much, but have really been enjoying their new one. I'll also be seeing them in Dallas next week...anyone else doing GA?

  • They are fantastic. I am going to see them 12/11 in Orlando. It will be the first concert for my partner and I since the birth of our son. He is almost two!

Their early stuff is great, but I love Circuital. It has a great flow to it.

All I have is Circuital. I love the first half. 2nd half is merely good I think. One of my faves of 2011.

I'll dig deeper in 2012 - it's going to be a New Years resolution. 8-)

  • I only own two of their albums but really like those, so this thread was very helpful!

I am now planning to check out some of the live stuff online, if I can do so for free. Am considering picking up the live album too, since it comes so highly recommended.

My favorite bands are all very good live. Being able to move from the studio to the stage is an essential for me.

LA show ended up being really good Thursday night. Jim and Carl had tech difficulties early on with their guitars but once they got on track, they really got going. It was the 3rd time I'd seen them this year behind Circuital, but it was good to see them dig deep with songs I hadn't seen them play like War Begun and Evelyn is Not Real. I was fortunate enough to get one of Jim's picks after the show. Good times.

They're playing a radio holiday show in San Diego tonight. Their set doesn't start till 10:45 though, worried it won't be a full one.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
