What are some of his "go to" runs when he solos? Sounds so good whatever paterns he is repeating...

    For any, and I mean any guitarist, learn the Pentatonic scale. A lot of famous players use it, Gilmoure, Slash, Page. It is the most common one out there and probably the easiest.

    Songs with it that are easy to learn:
    Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
    Redemption Song - Bob Marley (check out the Cornell version)
    Sweet Child O' Mine - GNR
    Alive - Pearl Jam
    Garden - Pearl Jam

    Also learn the major scales, then move into blues and so on. Practice! Practice!
