WOW! *picks jaw up off the floor* Wow! As if you weren't knocked out enough already by Red Mosquito, Rats!, Satan's Bed!...enter 12 minutes of PORCH PARADISE! Daaaaaaaaamn! From the beginning...Ed's fierce whispering of the words while he slowly strums along, the crowd coming in early and singing his part, the insanely kick ass-massivly tweaked out/shreddin/hypnotic/how are these sounds possible- jam session that goes on for daaaaaaays, the crowd participation...to the chunky guitar slides that follow, to BOOOOOM...to the way Ed's gorgoues "heey aahhh aww ooooh" eases it all back together and then just goes out as explosively as possible. OMG...just everything.
This version is AW-SOME!

Great, great version. kudos to the band!
Even with the jazzy intro, did it seem off though? Maybe I need to listen to it again, I have to download the boot still.

Actually, I think that Porch from Albany in 2003 is one of the finer versions.
The main reason I prefer State College, beside the vaguely "Iron Man" (?) riff Jeff brings in and they then jam on for like 5 minutes, is Eddie's idealistic speech during the jam. If you haven't heard it, as the band keeps this uplifting beat in the background Eddie relates to the crowd for ever feeling powerless or insignificant before assuring them that each and every one of them is a force to be reckoned with (it's implied that this is speaking to the then upcoming Presidential election). It's vintage Eddie-the-political-pluralist, and I'm such a cynic that I now find the speech somewhat depressing because just as the Penn State college students and assorted others were a force so were the elderly and Religious Right in that same election. But the energy of the moment is so beautiful nonetheless.
