Why should I get a XBox 360?

I'm considering getting an XBox 360 4 GB b/c well, it seems like fun. However, I know next to nothing about the new game systems so I thought I'd look for some advice - basically, I'm looking for something like the Kinect or the Wii for my wife and I want something to stream video. Also, am I correct in thinking the Xbox plays Blue-Ray? Also, for full disclosure, we have two young daughters - 4 and 1 who we don't plan to get many games for yet, so this is mostly for an adult purchase. Also, in case it matters, we have a fairly old tv that works fine and don't plan to buy a new one until we absolutely have to.

Anyone have any thoughts? And how would you compare the systems - Nintendo and Xbox?

    as much as i want to say yes ( I have an xbox) they do not play blu rays. go get yourself a PS3 if you want to play blu rays, but then again it doesn't have kinect :(

    Xbox does not play blu rays, the only game system that does that is the PS3.

    10 out of 10 Rygars prefer 360 to the Wii, although you might want to consider the 360 with the harddrive if you can.

    I don't know much about Kinect except it the games seem family/child oriented almost exclusively. Kinect features in the more adult games don't really seem to have much value.

    PS3's competition to Kinect and Wii is the PS Move. 10 out of 10 Rygars also prefer 360 over PS3, although it's rumoured they all have both.

    I have only owned the Xbox, and it seems that Gates & Co want to incorporate it into a "lifestyle". I like the fact you can stream ESPN 3, Zune, and the netflix streaming beats ANY other device I have seen. Not to mention Xbox just signed on with the major cable providers so it's basically a cable box now. Although I would agree with prior comments, go for one that has a larger hard drive you can burn music, movies, games, etc to, 4 GB's will go quick.

    Get the xbox 360 with kinect, its a blast. had my mom and aunt playing there the other night- darts and golf. Love kinect sports 2. Kinect you can also use with msn for webcalls/netflix/stream music and movies from your hard drive..etc.

    Started playing Tiger Woods 09 with my pops.. he loves it. easy to play. good laugh had by all. you'll get your monies worth and more.

    i was going to buy a ps3 a couple of years ago, but the more i thought about it, the more i knew it would collect dust

    Thank you everyone for your input. There is an Amazon lightening deal coming up at 10 PST so that is what spurred the discussion in our house. Earlier today it was a package deal of the Xbox and Kinect for $199, but I think the next one is only the Xbox. I think we're going to hold off still and further explore our options.

    You shouldn't because it came out 6 years ago. Just wait for the next system at this point.

    It's a lot of fun and I really don't play that often - mostly just once a week with my cousin online. The ESPN access is pretty sweet though. So much better than watching ESPN3 on the computer. You can also watch DIVX/downloads on your Xbox

    I don't have it at all. But if I did, it wouldn't be hard. I'm the only hockey fan I know who absolutely hates EA NHL games.

    PS4 will be out right after the next xbox (720?). The ps3 will be supported for 10 years aside from PS4 ;)
