Hey guys,
First off if this should be posted somewhere else I apologize.

I acquired a BUNCH of vinyl from my cousins ex about 2 years ago. I'm just now going through it. Not gonna lie...It's a little overwhelming.
He was a spinner so I'm guessing they are all played. Some of the covers are in better shape than others. That being said just about every album in this list is an original pressing.

I am looking for any information anybody can give me on these. I don't know the rarity, value, or even if it's good music...I don't have time to listen to all of them, but if you notice a gem that I "need" to hear I'd like to know about it! :D The only info I am putting in the list is Band/Album...sometimes year. 95% of them are early/mid eighties. If you want to know anything else, to help me determine what exactly I have, let me know. Thanks in advance everyone!

Thanks for the input so far guys! I have a decent size vinyl collection that I've been keeping these separate from.
It'll be nice to know which ones should meander over to my permanent pile!
Gonna try to start listening a little this weekend.

  • If you have an original pressing of Bad Religion's Into the Unknown, that might be very valuable depending on the condition. It was their second album and they tried to be all prog rockish in the Todd Rundgren's Utopia vein. It's kind of a "what are they thinking?" album. Almost nobody bought one and they became a hard to get collector's item. Rumor was Brett Gurewitz had all the copies and was slowly selling them himself. Real nice find.

Lots of great hardcore on that list. Some of the originals or rarer ones can go for a lot of $$$. The Bad Religion Into the Unknown could be worth a lot and that is the one that sticks out the most. It is a terrible album but that is also why it is extremely rare and a Bad Religion completest dream. Th eReplacements - Let it be goes for about $20-$30 but is an amazing album so you should keep it. I'd love to have those Effigies albums and that Battalions of Saints LP is killer as well. The MDC album is a great Hardocore album at least listen to "john Wayne is a Nazi" off of it.

WOW! That's awesome...not really the value...but that I asked for people to help me out and I'm getting useful feedback. Not that I didn't expect it. I did kinda a half-ass research on these but got frustrated and gave up. This makes it much easier on me.
The Bad religion cover has a little bend in the bottom right...kinda have to turn it in the light to see it...The insert(lyrics) sheet is nice and crisp and the vinyl itself looks unplayed...
The MDC back cover scared me a little... I'll give that song a go though now. I tend to be drawn to album. I will sometimes buy an album strictly based off of this...Not generally recommended!

    Keep and listen to these.
Throw ... err ... give the rest away.

That Avengers record (assuming its original -- a good bet) is worth a good few bucks.
The rest not sure how much worth.

The Agnostic Front lp is worth a couple bucks too, not as much as Avengers though.

Just go to GEMM.com and copy past in to search.
click on the link "view all matches" when you find the right item.
Scroll and check out conditions, pressings, and country of origin,
should help you get pricing down.

If you like Hardcore you definitely got some very nice records and have some fun listening ahead of you,

I am pretty sure I am right but Into the Unknown has been out of print forever because they hated it so much, very weird and not hardcore at all. They recently reissued it for the box set but that is it so it is very rare because people hated it so much. How Can Hell be Any worse on the other hand is fucking bad ass. That Channel 3 record is pretty good as well. That MDC record is great very hardcore and pissed off at everything.
Not sure how much you are into that era but if you are and haven't seen it checkout AMerican Hardcore or read the book and handful of those bands are talked bout in it.

OK...So I started to spin these this weekend.
    I dug The Replacements album.
Bad Religion - "Hell" was good
I also gave MDC a listen....The John Wayne Nazi song was good... But it was a little angry for me.
I like angry...I just don't think every cop is also a KKK member...
I think I may try to unload some of these sometime soon...I don't really know what they are worth (other than what I've been told), so if anyone is interested in anything let me know. I will probably give it a quick listen to see if it's something I would wanna keep. I just know there is vinyl out there, I would like to have more than some of these.
I'll keep on spinning regardless, just figured I'd offer the chance to someone who might appreciate these more than me. I'd rather give the 10clubbers first shot if there is something you like.
    Peace. :D

  • Just glancing down the thread, I don't see a mention yet of that Dead Milkmen album - I like those guys! I would recommend giving that one a spin.

I have no idea if it's worth anything - I own a lot of vinyl from the 1980's myself, but I don't even know what my own stuff is worth!

I don't own that DM album...but I wish I did! Those guys are a lot of fun!

That is an interesting collection - a lot of hardcore stuff, mixed in with a bit of radio-friendly stuff.
  • I'd REALLY like that avengers album ... is it this?

I think you can probably sell it for $70 if you tried (maybe more? i think it's fairly rare, at least, imho, their shit is hard to find) ... but i honestly am in no position to go offering that much for a record.

I could probably scrounge up $30, but I actually gotta ship this dog-eaten Daughter 12" to someone who PMd me, and I'm too broke right now to even really afford that well (just givin it away, but i feel bad for slackin) ...

    hmm.

    :( :( :(

I really dig their shit, and would love it on record.
Corpus Christi, Second To None, and Thin White Line are all classics (to me, lol) ...
Second To None is one of my all around favorite songs these days.

    let me know wassup, anywho.

    The Dead Milkmen rock.

I mean, it's really tough to dislike a band with songs like the following:
If You Love Someone Set Them On Fire
    Right Wing Pigeons
    Takin' Retards To the Zoo
    Stupid Maryanne
    I Dream of Jesus
    Methodist Coloring Book
    Surfin Cow
Lesbian Eskimo Midget Left-handed Ninja Albino

I just checked out that Bad Religion album out on GEMM and it said it was going for $195.43!
That is just like a BIN on "the bay" right? That doesn't mean that is the going rate does it?
Obviously not the $.43... but around $200? Or is that guy just in la-la land?
Everyone says this is a shit album so I don't understand...rare or not.

You have to look at descriptions on Gemm to make sure it's apples to apples.
First see if you can identify your pressing vs. the listed (hard to do sometimes)
but when prices are really out of whack with what you are expecting it is usually cuz it is a signed copy or something.

    Look in the details.

I've never used GEMM so it is probably similar but I've looked at http://www.popsike.com/ to see vinyl prices.

It limits the amount of searches you can do but is another place to look.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Ok. Checking your post again, i'm assuing the one going for over a buck is, Into The Unknown?
From the comments on this blog -- "I'm one of the lucky ones who has an original Vinyl" ... this is kind've a Binaural for Bad Religion.
Guess its just rare. Vinyl is like that.

Psychocandy definitely needs to make it into your keepers pile. Awesome album, seminal.

Also Echo and the Bunnymen - Porcupine in particular

Quite a few of the others I don't know

Kings of the Wild Frontier is a pretty good record, though sounds a little dated and dateable now - although that's part of the appeal :)
