Election 2012. What is the key issue?

So all elections at least of the last 20 years or so seem to have one key issue in which the opposing parties take opposing views. Whatever the issue ends up being in the US obviously reverberates around the world.
Have been doing some work with a minor Australian political party preparing for whenever our next federal election might be (because we don't have a hell of a lot of faith in Gillard surviving her term), and one of the things our committee is trying to assess is what the major issue is likely to be (Climate change, GFC, social issues or whatever).
Was hoping to get some input from some of you guys from the states as to what you think your major issues will be as it will obviously influence what happens over here.
Thanks guys!
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

if a repuplican other than romney, huntsman, or maybe paul gets it the major issue will be how fast we can build our bunkers

It is hard to pin point one issue right now. I think the main issue is fear. Fear of the economy, fear of Iran, fear of the world imploding...all of these things are based on the idea that the government needs us to be afraid in order to get our support. They cannot garner support on strong policy as both parties abandoned that a long time ago.

It is unfortunate but that is what I see happening. If we aren't afraid, we, as a country, may make rational choices for leadership. That would result in a pretty damaging hit to all current crazy ass politicians. Can't have that. So for me the biggest issue is fear. Who ever can drum up the most wins

Getting rid of the incumbents. That's my top issue.

This time around, we should all Vote For Change.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

The key issue should be jobs and the economy.

But I'm sure the candidates will talk a good talk until elected and then drop the issues entirely like they are known to do. Nothing new.
  • The funny thing is Obama should RUN on Foreign Policy. Who would have thought that 3 years ago!!!
