    Here's mine:

    1- Automatic for the People
    2- Lifes Rich Pageant
    3- Green
    4- Murmur
    5- Collapse Into Now

For the record, I don't own Dead Letter Office, Up, Reveal or Around the Sun. So these haven't gotten a fair chance.

    reckoning
    fables
    pageant
    mumur
    document
honorable mention to dead letter office-which is not on your list
  • I will get shit for going to 10, and still not including Murmur.
But honestly, the only thing i feel truly bad about is having to give Reckoning the 7 spot, cuz I do quite enjoy it, however I was forced out of intellectual honesty to give 3 to Automatic, despite inherent hesitation due to its over-played status -- though you have to recognize the absolute solidness of the effort. If the gods of time would some how allow me to move the back half of Reckoning off the album, and move songs 7-11 from Out of Time on to it, we would have one of the most perfect REM albums, and then I could put it easily at #2. But such is life. :(

Bah. If there is a band i feel "bad" about ranking, it's REM.
:( no good can come of this :(

If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
  • ps - for those who have Document high, and the guy with Document at #1,
don't you feel that Side 2 is almost a throw away?
Exhuming McCarthy, Disturbance, Welcome..., even Strange, these are great songs.
But the back half of Document feels like B-sides (at best) to me. :(

I could never get into Document. A few really great songs, and some mediocre ones, to me doesn't make a great album.

Sorry - it's generally not listed as an "album." I guess that would be like including Lost Dogs as a PJ album??? Anyways - I'll go back and edit my listing.

Both solid tunes. Can't say back half is a "throw away". ;)

I consider lost dogs to be an album. B-sides and outakes are still original songs.

As far as document goes, king of birds and oddfellows may be the best two song on the reocrd.

Lots of diversity but clearly Lifes Rich Pageant is universally loved. And I just discovered that album this year.  WTF was I doing for 25 years? I love the deliberate lack of an apostrophe.
