We've been enjoying the responses to this thread, and it is interesting to see the results of this little experiment:
The thread was posted in response to another just like it, from a poll about a week earlier, when public sentiment favored the OWS movement more than the Tea Party. Since that time, the numbers have flip-flopped, and although the poll still finds that the majority of Americans dislike BOTH groups, "many of you are still shooting the messenger", so to speak.
Consider this:
-The poll was conducted by a Democrat organization w/ an accurate record in regards to polling.
-The numbers are very similar to the previous poll that found Americans favored OWS (and that poll was cheered and accepted, the source never questioned.) See the thread.
Yet, here in this thread, when the results are not to the liking of the Train People, they immediately start questioning the accuracy of this poll- AND ALL polls in general. We begin to see posts asking if anyone has ever been polled- the chorus of the Train clamoring that polls in general, are ALL inaccurate. Fascinating!
Add to it, the usual tearing down of the source- which happens quite often here- and is generally good practice-although some sources like NYTimes, HuffPo, DailyKos, and Wikipedia, seem to be wholely unquestioned here. What was suprising here is that this poll was reported by a wide variety of news sources- including Yahoo and others- they didn't conduct the poll- yet the poll is not to be believed b/c the Wash Examiner also reported it. Again- fasinating.
Finally, the "WE" is a small focus group of politically diverse people, who in the course of a study on Conservatism and Liberalism, have been reading and gleaming what we can about the thought processes of said individuals, from various chat rooms and websites and comment pages. As a PJ fan, I enjoy the Porch a lil more that the Train, but I suggested to the group that the Train be one of the sites that we study, b/c of the, uh, "diversity" of ideas found here. (Plus, its a great excuse to read the other PJ related forums in the meantime.)

does the study you are doing include deliberately attempting to rile up people on one side of the political spectrum with baiting and inflammatory posts?
either way, I would suggest using more than observation of a single thread but rather multiple posts on similar threads by the same poster. That would probably give you a better description and would definitely strengthen your argument in my eyes.

it is not a very valid study when one person allegedly collecting data is on here stirring the pot...
Not data. We just copy n paste collections of threads and quotes, share what we've read and found about different topics on different sites, and compare.

you're posting on a public forum.
are you claiming rights to the information you have posted publicly?

this is like being recorded without consent. i suggest the mods look into what mr malone is doing by deliberately provoking and baiting people and then taking and reporting their responses without people's consent.
what is the board policy on this???
"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
It's a public forum. You can't control who reads your posts. Even if he is sharing these posts with other people (which I don't believe he is--in my opinion, it's just another post made to get a reaction from people), there's no legal recourse to be had because you're the one who posted in a public forum. It's no different from standing on a street corner shouting your opinions. You'd have no legal recourse if someone decided to start filming you and showed his friends.
Now, the posts he's made may or may not violate the board rules. That's up to the mods to determine. I'd suggest you report any posts of his you feel violate the rules of this forum if you want them to look into it.

this is a public forum ... in some states it is legal to record without consent as long as one party is aware/consents to it.

Unless you are in your own home, and baring the use of said recording for monetary gain, you HAVE NO RIGHT to NOT be recorded with out consent.
In fact, the person recording you HAS THE RIGHT TO RECORD YOU, if you are in a public space.
