Two years after Andy's untimely death, I became a fan of the band. Give me a little bit of slack, I mean, I was ten when Ten premiered, then I worked my way backwards. To this day, Apple is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I think, very much so, that there should be a version of the album on vinyl. Pearl Jam has been such a great force in my life that my life shaped around them. As a ten-year-old, http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=689673152623&set=a.654792359013.2202371.31202028&type=3&theaterat the beach, my souvenirs were band tees and stained-glass window ornaments, one of which was a black eighth note I had engraved with Andy's name. This December, I'm turning 30 and the band has been celebrating their 20 years. I grew with them. They helped me grow. In fact, as I celebrate my 30th, I do it in honor of them: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=268485543190405
I spent the last three years of my MFA writing my memoir to the tune of their music in my life. What power. I even used Mother Love Bone in my graduate entrance essay. I was fortunate enough to have a segment of my piece read to Kelly Curtis, and that to me was incredible. I'd only hoped they knew. I want them to know how incredible they've been in my life.
Be well and rock on,
Rachael
