    I'll just say something here...

I bringing one off my old buddies at Quebec... a guy that loves old PJ songs...
Don't think he knows alot of the recent stuff... he's about 13 hours from me since '98 (he's at Sept-Iles, i'm near Montreal). So i couldn't educate him properly on all new PJ stuff... hehehe

From what i've seen from Vancouver and Calgary, he will be blown away!!!!
Its a kick ass old setlist!!!!
For is sake i hope it will be like that at Quebec city! Calgary is not that old setlist wise... but all classics....

For me well... the rarest... the juiciest!!!!

Can't spit on old classics dough..... this is great...
    Toronto 96-09-21 / Montreal 98-08-20
    Barrie 98-08-22 / Montreal 00-10-04 / Montreal 03-06-29
    Montreal 05-09-15 / Quebec 05-09-20 / Montreal 11-09-07
    Worcester 13-10-15 / Denver 14-10-22 / Quebec 16-05-05
    Ottawa 16-05-08 / Ottawa 20-03-20 / Quebec 20-03-22
  • Before we get to the music, we have to talk about the crowd. Wow. Having been to nearly every rock show in town for the last 10 years, I can say without hesitation that last night's crowd was AMAZING. Loud, energetic, and courteous! They were as in to Alone, Hard to Imagine and Oceans as they were Daughter, Evenflow and Alive.

Had 3rd row seats courtesy 10 club. Nice. Mike M's side. Oceans as an opener blew me away. Incredible. Never thought I'd see Oceans, Alone, Hard to Imagine, Sleight of Hand and Whipping in the same set EVER! Setlist speaks for itself. I think they were making sure the crowd they haven't seen for 12 years saw what they had missed.

    Couple quick notes:
    - Band came out an looked shy but intense. The crowd's energy picked them up.
    - Ed referenced the ongoing crisis in New Orleans as being difficult for the band as they had recorded there, leading to a song that was recorded there, Red Mosquito
    - Ed said after the encore break that the crowd was, "Makin' it awful hard for guys to be depressed!"
    - Ed again referenced their surprise at the energy "out there" for the band.
    - As the show progressed, the band looked so into it, and really, really happy to be there. Ed changed the lyrics in Yellow Ledbetter to, "... to be honest, I would love to stayyyy..." after the crowd gave him an obvious response before he could sing the first "I don't wanna stay".
    - During RITFW and YL, Ed and the band kind of stood there in amazement of the crowd, with Ed kinda leaning back and smiling, with the rest of the band grinning like madmen!!
    - Some woman's 100th show down in the first row. Each member of the band gave her a pick personally, as well as the setlist. Ed referenced it in the second encore, saying, "There's a woman down front who's at her 100th show. I don't think she wanted to show-off, but seeing as I've only been to 101, that's pretty good." Big smiles from the band.
    - But highlight of the night? Goes to Ed double fisting his wine AND Heineken near the end of the show.
    - Throughout the last 10 songs the band touched their hearts numerous times, as if to say, "Thanks."

    No, no! Thank YOU.

Tons of other highlights, but that's about the best. They RAWKED. Ed's voice was great, Mike LOVED grabbing the spotlight, Stone was dancing, and Jeff was moving all around the stage.

Great show. Can't wait for tonight.

The poster was a goalie, all white cartoonish, on a green back ground. His stick said Pearl Jam, Calgary 2005 on it in red. Would have bought for sure if it was in a T shirt, but I didn't want that on my wall ;)

Awesome review Scott! You said it all

Did you see the big Canada flag hanging from the balcony on Stone's side? It said "THANK YOU PJ".......That was my flag, I was in row 17 on the floor but my sis was up on the 2nd level first row so I had her hang it up there.
Ed saw it during yellow ledbetter and gave a salute. My sister's buddy gave the peace sign and Ed did it right back to him.......totally awesome!

    What a show!
  • Holy OCEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow is all I can say. That sounds like such an awesome show, and I'm wishing right about now that I could have popped in for a visit with my stepsister in Calgary right about now. :) Also, I know it's not too rare, but I love that little Betterman tag by the Ramones.

  • Edwouldgo,
Im glad you enjoyed your show and that you had such a great time.
Your review was awesome, sometimes i cant read through a whole fanview because I get bored but yours got me hooked from the beginning to the end.
    Thumbs up!!!!

You made me want to buy that show, it sounds like the crowd took the songs to a different level.

    Cheers
    Urs,
  • This is was my third show, I was in Boise 2000 and Vancouver 2002 and by far and away this was the best crowd of all of them. Not the best setlist, but it was more than made up with the energy of the crowd. To all the haters that were on the board claiming low ticket sales, all I can say is No Fucking way, the place was as packed as I have ever seen it, save Game Six of the Flames/Wings last year.

I felt the main set was awesome, the Save You, Corduroy, Last Exit string was intense. I think they addressed the crowd a total of 4 times, they just came out and played, which I really appreciated.

My personal highlight was the start of Betterman, the band played the intro and Ed was about to kick in with the lyrics, but the crowd was so loudm, so he just leaned back smiled and waited for us to die down and told us to take over. Incredible feeling.

When a band doesn't come to a city for 10 years, you never know how they are going to be received and all I can say is that they were received with open arms and seemed touched to be here, even mentioning that they can't wait to be back. I am holding them to that......... Hopefully in less than 10 years though.

Off to Edmonton this afternoon, where I hope to have a setlist with Some Crazy Mary, State of Love and Trust and Nothingman.

One other thing, RVM was incredibly intense as a main set ender.
  • Oh OMG! I hope they the play this song at one of these shows.. Kitchner,Hamilton or London...I'll be a happy little Girl!!!
  • This was my second show, first being in Van 03'. I thought the crowd was into it at that show, but this just blew it away. Unreal. I've been to a lot of shows at the dome in the past 10 or so years and this was easily the loudest I've seen the place at a rock show.

The setlist was amazing and the band ate up all the energy. They looked like they were having a blast. I'm fairly new to the 10C and even with such a high 10C number I ended up with great seats. I like the way they put us up on the sides a bit instead of way back on the floor. I had a great view and the sound was awesome.

    Great, great show.
  • This is the last fanview thread I'm reading.

I am SO looking forward to the Philly show on my birthday that reading these fanviews is just gonna make it seem like 10 years before that show gets here.

Thanks for the great little stories you guys have, they're friggen awesome!

Glad you Canadians are getting good shows so far!
Okay... seatbelts. Just put the little thing into the big thing and... I tell ya what. If you don't know how to fasten your seatbelt, just raise your hand and I'll have Tommy Boy here come back there and hit you in the head with a tack hammer because you're a RETARD.
  • Come on, you're not gonna stop readin' 'em.....!!!!!! You better hope Ed and the boys don't take up citizenship while they're here. From the sounds of it, they're really taking a shine to the place..... You may never see 'em again !!!
  • Long time lurking, first time posting.

I am a huge fan, and I'm embarassed to say that even though Pearl Jam are my favorite band I have only had to opportunity to see them play live once (Toronto, 2000). I'm very much looking forward to the St. John's shows and after reading this thread I don't think I can wait until the 24th and 25th. My brother saw this show last night and I can't wait to talk to him about it.

I downloaded the show this morning and was blown away by how intense it sounded. I was amazed when I saw the setlist and I can easily say that this would be very close to what my "dream" show's set-list would look like. Seems like the band really fed off the crowd, I just hope we can do the same for them when they arrive on the Rock.

Listening to the show, I thought the coolest quote was when Ed said, "Thanks for bringing your Saturday night game on a Sunday night." An obvious Hockey Night in Canada reference.

Ya I loved that lst night. I wonder if the guys knew that it was a holiday for us up here today. Everyone brought their Saturday night game cause that's pretty much what it was for us. Loooong weekend!!

Fantastic show. Having a listen to it again right now.
  • i've seen them in barrie, toronto and cinci and this was by far the best i've seen them. although that last toronto show was pretty close just cause of the baba encoure but RITFW for neil tops that one. listening to show and i've very pleased with the quality and speed of download. havn't listened to these guys in a while but i have to say this show brought me back as a fan. looking forward to hearing the rest of the tour.

    that is soooooo wicked. thanks!
  • Highlights from last night for me:

Walking in to the saddledome and having my ticket not work in the scanner. I was devastated. I was so worried that I would not be able to get in because for some reason my ticket was wrong or something. I go to the customer services booth and they tell me that the band needed my seat for some special guest so they gave me a new ticket in row 5 side stage on Mike's side! Awsome seat great luck for me!

The first set was such a blur after oceans. The band came out like they were on a mission. Every song was played and sung with such intensity it was unbelievable. You kept waiting for them to slow it down but it just never happened.

The crowd drowning out Eddie during Alive. You could see him singing into the microphone but you could barely hear him over the crowd.

    RITFW!!!! Insanity!

Guy jumping off a 20 ft drop behind the stage during the encore. All you could were was a thud. At first I though Matt had whacked his drumkit but then you could see the security dragging him out. I guess he was ok.

Mike trying to throw picks out to us but only hitting the security guy in the head.

The look on the guys face when eddie handed him his wine bottle after the show! Talk about a souvenier. I think eddie had written something on it in gold pen but I'm not sure. He was ten seats down but he left on the other side of the section so I couldnt catch him.

Edmonton crowd has it's work cut out for it because Calgary will be a tough act to follow. Can't wait for tonight!

PS Supersuckers rocked! great openers really got the crowd going. Mike sat and watched part of the set. Red spiked hair and a cardigan vest . Rad. Totally Rad.
  • So I was next to a beautiful woman Section 112 Row 8 in Calgary... Now shes gone and its killing me... A fantastic show made better by being next to someone who loved it as much as me, and Ill never see her again. gonelikethat@hotmail.com

The same guy caught one of the Tambourines... Talk about a lucky f--ker!

-I noticed Eddie at one point squinting way up to the last seats in the arena and the amazed look on his face when I think he realized that every nook and cranny was filled.
-Rockin in thr Free World and Yellow Leadbetter to end it with all the lights up in the place was awesome... I felt so close to the band and all the other 17 500 people in there.
-I laughed my ass off when Eddie slammed the wine and beer at the same time... There is a killer pic of this if you get the bootleg!
-The multiple bows and waves from the band at the end, it didn't seem like they wanted to leave... For a moment I didn't think Eddie was going to when he walked up to the mic to say goodnight.
-The sound in the biulding was really really good for an arena and that really came through on Alive and Black.

    Calgary was a fucking experience...........

Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
  • Oh. My. God.

    The calgary show was amazing.

I adore Pearl Jam, they're my absolute favorite band, but this was the first time i saw them.

And oh my. I couldn't speak coherently for a while after the show.

I was so happy they played Black. That was the first PJ song I ever liked and when they played, it was just so amazing. And the lighters? Crazy.

I loved having the lights on for RITFW and Ledbetter. it was so awesome seeing everyone else there. and the band's look of awe at every seat being filled.

Alright, im just babling now and repeating what everyone else has. Just to say though. I love the show. yay.
  • I was in the 9th row for the Calgary show, right in front of Eddie. My ears are still ringing, it was unbelievable. Someone asked for an image of the tour poster, so I posted it here http://photobucket.com/albums/b121/yowza57/
  • I have been to a lot of packed shows for high profile bands in the past decade - REM, Smashing Pumpkins, PJ, RHCP, etc - and I've seen some awesome performances.

In Calgary, not only did PJ put on a great show, but they were playing to the best crowd that I have ever seen in my life. The reactions from the audience and the energy that was in the saddledome was absolutely insane. The last two songs (RITFW, Yellow Ledbetter) were played with the lights on and it really gave an awesome impression of how into the show everyone was in all decks of the dome. Congrats Calgary!

the fact that the band would come out fighting like they did with Oceans, Last fucking Exit, Corduroy, Whipping and Hail Hail...i would have flipped the fuck out. seriously. that is one of THE best setlists i have ever seen.

oceans, last fucking exit, corduroy, whipping, hail hail...are you fucking kidding me??? i might punch my mom in the face because of this.

    you lucky bastards. :)

  • OK, I've been a fan since the day I bought Ten... but PJ hasn't been here that I can remember. (apparently they were 10 years ago according to Ed at the show.)

This concert is in my top 3! Totally awesome. (other 2 being Big Sugar's last gig and U2's Pop Mart)

The crowd was insane, the band sounded amazing, they seemed to be into the show too.

When the house lights came up and they played for 2 more songs, that was amazing. Soooo many people having a good time...

People going insane with the tamborines, and that guy on the stairway who Ed handed the bottle too....the look on his face was awesome.

I was right by the crazy bugger who jumped off the stairway behind the stage during the accoustic set. What a nut job. I don't think he expected to hurt that much when he landed, he wasn't moving anywhere very fast and then security scrapped him up. Probalby taking him to see the EMS guys.

I also wanted to mention that I was so impressed with my seats. I've always heard that Pearl Jam was really good about not selling people crappy seats that weren't worth the money. It's totally true. I was worried because my tickets arrived with "Behind Stage" written on them. But it was awesome. All the band members addressed the rear lots of times, even Matt. We could see everything fine.

Totally awesome show. I'm dling the bootleg now, which is an incredibly amazing thing for a band to do for people. Offering the audio from every show in a fast, easy and cheap way is amazing. It's a really great demonstration of how a band can use the internet for it's own fair gain and the fan's continued enjoyment of an incredible show. Worth every penny to have some photos, cover art and the complete show.
