Incredible. Just awesome. Better than Melbourne2 IMO, although that could be because my tickets were much better.

SAD! PRESENT TENSE! Crowd interaction and laughs and games! It was just awesome.
Seriously, just drop the leash already!
  • Night after night I am just amazed and in awe of this band.....
    What a show!
Long Road opener started such an emotional and rockin' night for me....song after song I was just floored!!!!

If we are mentioning crowds, Tuesday might have been slightly better for the Melb shows but at this point I am on the best ride
(with or without some very strange people who just stand there! You know who you are and I don't understand........)

Anyway, the guys looked like they had a great time last night to top off what I hope they thought was a really great part of the Aus tour!!

Ed was crazy on stage, skulling wine, jumping off Boom, coin tricks (with Stoney laughing and giving it a go too!) Mike - Fine form!! Matt - crazy!
and Jeff helping the crowd with getting Ed to knock back the wine were parts of this show that will stick with me - such a fun show!
Ed's speech at Wasted Reprise got me with tears welling up - so proud of being a fan of this band!!

OK, clearly I am still tired and emotional but what a TOUR!!! and for me the next and final stop (boo hoo) is NEWCASTLE!!
Got a feeling this might just top them all yet!

    PEACE

  • WHAT A SHOW, WHAT A FINISH TO MELB SHOWS!!!

finally made it to the floor and had room to really let myself go. they were just awesome tonight, crowd were great i think, couldnt tell much bein on the floor.
better setlist was Melb 2 but best all round performance was last nite i reckon, i dont like to separate the shows into which were better cos they all were unbelievable. they just gave and gave. highlights for me were; SAD, PT!!, SAVE YOU, WHY GO, COMATOSE, BLACK, KICK OUT THE JAMS, they really went nuts on that one i tell u.

the endin was just special with Ed jumpin off Boom, sculling his wine and the 50c in the crack trick. dont know what more to say, i will miss these guys dearly, hope they will be back soonish.

Well another great night, even from all the way up in row MM upper level, different perspective than 4th row Stone's side on Monday. You still really feel the band even if everyone else isn't up on their feet. Awesome set list. Ed was really funny. Highlights were definately Black, MOTH, RVM and small town. Alive and Even Flow went off, again, always have and always will.. I hope 'YONKS' doesn't mean too long.

To Pearl Jam, thank you...... See you next time.

That just blew my mind! I'm practically speechless after that incredible concert, just couldn't believe the songs I was hearing. SAD and PRESENT TENSE, not to mention Hail Hail and some others I'd never heard live before. Highlights were Why Go, Save You, Black, Comatose and the 3 abovementioned. The boys were in outstanding form, visibly enjoying themselves. Jeff particularly was really rocking out towards the end of the show. So glad Ed said they're coming back, even though it wont be for a while (I assume part of the reason is that the guys are settling down with families). This band is the best I've ever seen in concert, and that includes U2 who I saw last night. U2 were tremendous and their light show was second to none, they were technically brillant and they played so many hits I wanted to hear, however I still like PJ better. Got floor again and initially was right at the back next to the mixer. Wasn't nearly as bad there as I thought it was going to be because my seat was on the isle and I had a good view of the band. When the boys went off before encore 1 the guy in front of me offered me a seat in row Y because his girlfriend was occupying that seat and they wanted to be together. So if you happen to be reading this board and catch this message - thanks a million, you really rock! Row Y i was hemmed in by 2 guys and couldn't rock out, however at least I could see the band and the sound was better closer towards the stage.

I didnt think the guys could get any better after Melb 1 and 2 but I was wrong, they played so many songs I wanted to hear Melb 3 and the crowd seemed to be really into them too, from where I was standing. I can't imagine a better live band than PJ, they'll always be my favourite band.
  • This was the last of my 7 show holiday, I was about 15 rows back on all 3 nights.. I think the crowd was a little less involved than the first 2 nights. but this one was still amazing and you could tell the boys were impressed!

Long road was a beautiful opener, a first for me! Hail hail had the rapid clapping during the outro! was amazing. One thing ive notived about aussie crowds is most dont like singing out too much, but love clapping along.

LBC was a suprise and something ive been wanting the whole tour! the cword wasnt too good at saying "love" though.. This one had the best and longest evenflow solo out of all of the ones so far! and a brilliant present tense, all though im not sure how the singalong to chorus went, all i know is i was singing as loud as i could!

A great first encore with MOTH and Off he goes, with a minor lyric error, Off he goes was probably my favourite and most memorable of the tour..
BLACK! > state of love and trust where ed threw the mike into the crowd for someone to sing a line! was perfect timing!

Then out of nowhere ed introduces kick out the jams, which obviously confuses the whole crowd haha. Very rockin!

A suprise whipping, a version of alive with ed jumping everywhere including off booms organ stool landing on his side..

and a rockin in the free world was a perfect ending to the show..

then ed says that he was going to do something on stage that they and possibly no other band or anyone has ever likely to have done on stage..

the crowd then starts chanting "skull! skull!"

ed says that he wouldnt want to rush through the bottle of wine, as he was stating all through the show how good it was..

he then proceeded to get a little yellow cup, set it down on the stage and try to transport 50c from his asscrack across the stage and into the cup. he failed, so stone then tryed.. his coin hit the cup but didnt make it in..

the crowd then started chanting for ed to skull the bottle of wine again..

so he did.. and the red eventually went all down his face..

    they then started yellow ledbetter!!

Good on you Yonks for getting your priorities right and staying with your wife and precious new baby. You could have gone both Monday and Tuesday but stayed to do the right thing, it must have been hard to miss two PJ shows! Glad you went Thursday night, believe me it was the best show so far. I went to all 3 and was highly impressed with 1 and 2, thinking it couldn't possibly get better but Melb 3 had a great setlist including several songs I never thought I'd get to hear, so I left incredibly happy and satisfied with Pearl Jam and met some nice people from this board at the Queensberry hotel later on in the night.
  • What can I say about this show....

Quite honestly, one of the best performances I have seen. PJ are without a doubt one of, if not THE best stage band in the world.

Amazing shows. This one, the third, was my fave. Just incredible. The crowd was somewhat laid back on this third night, but the band sort of seemed relaxed and in the groove.

Started somewhat slowly, but the first set just built on itself right through. Rearviewmirror went off....just awesome.

the other two encore sets jsut took it from there....Yellow ledbetter, in this last concert of the tour that I will see, just reminded me why I love this band.

I cant wait for them to return. I know they enjoy coming to Australia.....I hope to see them here again soon.

Almost a week later and I am still so stoked...
    ITS EVOLUTION BABY!!!!

Well said. Couldn't agree with you more. Cant wait for them to come back either, I'm going to have to find some way to keep busy to take my mind off them. After all it could be another couple of years before we get another album, let alone a tour. I give it 3 to 4 years before they're back, but they WILL BE BACK!!! Ed said so twice. Although I only saw them 3 times (unable to go to more concerts owing to family commitments) I feel almost spoilt with the number of songs they played that I hadn't heard in concert before. Present Tense was just awesome, along with Sad but everything they played was just perfect, imo. I now have heard the whole of the Avocado album with the exception of Parachutes. Was hoping this might be the case and the boys never disappointed here. I was, on the whole, pretty happy with all 3 Melbourne crowds although they weren't rocking out at all on night 2 where I was (lower 0, section 19). I've never rocked out so much in my life before, and when Yellow Ledbeter was being played, I stood up on my seat and clapped the band. Nice to think they may have seen me! I feel really uninhibited when I'm watching them. They're definitely the greatest band in the world imo, and that's after having seen a magnificent U2 show on Saturday night. Given the choice I'd see PJ over U2 any time.
  • Absolutely awesome show, set list= perfect. Got to hear my fav Present Tense, Hail, Hail and Dissident. I was longing to hear Crown of Thorns but it wasn't to be. The third shaw was definetly better than the first one which I was lucky enough to attend in terms of crowd interaction and comic relief (Eddie and coin trick, LOL). I saw U2 on Saturday night and I agree with pjamaholic, they are great band (they had been my fav band until I heard PJ for the first time in february 1992) but I would choose PJ over U2 any time. Thank you guys for the fantastic week.

melbourne 3 is a great boot as well as being an awesome show... the aforementioned coin game, the change in DTE lyrics to "i am the first man to drop a coin out of my ass" and the references to Damien (off he goes and YL - 'damien i'd ike to stay').
not sure who damien is but i have a feeling that he may be a friend/relative of Anthony Hurley the melbourne fan who died at roskilde. i came to this conclusion cause they dedicated 'off he goes' to him and apparently that was Andrews fave song. They dedicated it to his family in 2003 from memory.
and LBC also made an appearance on this set with the changed lyrics to '9 friends we're getting to know more and more each day'.
probably reading WAY too much into this boot but hey got to do something now they are gone!
    thoughts?

one more thing on the boot - at the beginning of eldery woman the clapping is awesome. i was in the 4th row and matt was poking his head over the drums and getting us to do the 1,2 1,2 clap kinda thing. sounds good too.
    shame it didnt last longer.
  • Ed's speech before wasted reprise is great too "incredible things have happened, incredible things up here, and things we never thought we'd have to go through down here...but here we all are today, in this one moment...together, and we made it..."

Ah, goosebumps stuff, I wish I was still there!
Do ya see the way that tree bends?
  • The Melbourne show on the 16th was the first time I've ever had the pleasure of seeing Pearl Jam in concert, as I live up in Darwin and big bands don't play here. I just have to say that when they began to play Unemployable, I almost went weak at the knees. It was the only song from the new album that I really really wanted them to play, it being one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs ever since I heard it.
Some other notable favourites from the show were; Dissident, Sad, State of Love and Trust, and Love Boat Captain... I'm proud to say that I screamed 'love' every time Eddie said it, just as he suggested.
I walked away from that night the happiest I have ever been in my life.
"this one, anytime I say love if you wanna say love, uh, say it, and if you say it you might as well say it loud, and if you don't feel like sayin' it, don't say it, but if you feel it, certainly say it..."

Hey, that's so great to hear. I'm glad it had such an effect on you.

I'm not sure how long you've been into PJ, but it's heartening to see new, younger fans coming on board for a band that has been around for 16 years. Like 12-year-old Nick who got on stage at Sydney 3 during RITFW - that was just magic. It's a testament to Pearl Jam's genuis that they're still as relevant in 2006 as they were in the early-mid '90s.

thanks. I've been a Pearl Jam fan for about Ten years now, ever since I actually started listening to music at 12 or thirteen. I've never been too bothered to actually join the Ten Club until I saw them live in Melbourne. Suddenly I was all like... must devote life to Pearl Jam! and all, and all

  • Oh yeah, just to test people's memory.

I was the only person who stopped outside Rod Laver Arena after the concert and sat on the side of the little hill next to the oval and had a cigarette. I swear I was the only one who wasn't in a rush to leave... weird.

So anyway, if you saw me, say so... just out of interest. (Call it a 'social experiment' related to memory)
