Hi all,

Pearl Jam's performance was cancelled by organizers before the band arrived
at Heineken Festival. My Chemical Romance, the Killers and Linkin Park's
performances were also cancelled, along with the rest of the weekend's show.

We're told that there are no critical injuries and for that we are grateful.

Here is the official release from the festival's organizers translated from Italian:

Venice 15 June 2007

Comunicato Stampa

Comune Venezia, Milano Concerti and Heineken are forced to announce the cancellation of the concerts scheduled for Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the Heineken Jammin’ Festival.

An incredibly violent whirlwind hit the festival area and consequently shattered the sound-system towers, made the main stage unfit for use, and compromised essential technical and electrical systems. Under these circumstances it was impossible to let the event carry on. This happened right after the performance of Italian band Le Mani. My Chemical Romance, The Killers, Linkin Park and Pearl Jam were also scheduled to appear today, but their performances were cancelled.

Unfortunately, there were 19 non-critical injured, still held at the hospitals in Mestre and surroundings, that were promptly rescued by the organization. To all of them we give our best wishes.

The numerous crowd that was already attending the event, reacted with great self-control and walked out from the festival area very smoothly. Equally smooth was the tickets’ refund procedure, which will continue in the next days. Official information will be soon availabe on Milano Concerti and Heineken web Sites.

Comune Di Venezia, Milano Concerti and Heineken had cooperated with great enthusiasm and perfect harmony to achieve the success of the event, which an absolutely unpredictable incident made impossible. Therefore, Milano Concerti, Comune Di Venezia and Heineken do hope to have the chance to produce, in the future, important events such as the one they had so carefully planned.

kind of hard to prepare for with an outside festival

things that they had control over such as evacuation and safety procedures on the other hand, seemed to have worked smoothly and i commend them for that

poor people that got hurt though:(

This is absolutely ridiculous. the event it's been cancelled because the entire area it's under judicial seizure: this is the main reason, even if everybody knows that it's impossible to set up everything back. Yesterday, when we were leaving the venue, a security guy told us "police will tell us what to do". he didn't mention neither financial losses or practical problems in restoring the stage and lights and all the stuff. evrybody who was there yesterday know that there were risks becuase of human faults, beside the rain and the hailstones. it's only luck that nobody died.
Probably it's the last of your thoughts, but if you want you have 8 days (so dead line for asking refunds is 22 of june) for asking the refund of the tickets (it's written also behind the ticket).

Why do we need two sticky threads about this? Surely the bigger one could just be renamed?

  • Hi everybody, first time I post in the forum.
I just want to say that I was there when the "hurricane" happened and it was really scary. And in the aftermath I was toot worried that nobody was seriously hurt to be sorry about the loss of the show.
Now we now that people were "just" injured and we hope they get all right very soon to attend the next Pearl Jam show in Italy: please, come back soon, at the end of the European Tour, do not let us another 6 years waiting for you.
    Thanks everybody
