imo, a race horse should have an intimidating name, because let's face it, things are not all safe and cordial in the middle of one of those packs of horses jockeying for position. and with an intimidating name it might give my jockey a little bit more confidence in that situation.

Not always.. in the odd case that neither dam nor sire is of recognizable name they begin a name all it's own; as in the case of Secretariat, Northern Dancer, and Winning Colors..( she was only the FOURTH Filly EVER to win the Kentucky Derby..She was given her moniker due to the rarity of a Thoroghbred to come out ANY roan but a Blue Roan to boot made her extra special!!

Like I said I always wanted to name one Gems or Rhinestones.. But nowadays I like the idea of a horse named Opal Fire. I also came up with Shouting Thunder, The Wind Screams, but the craziest horse name I've heard yet was a horse named PassTheSalt.
