His live shows in 2008 (his last tour) were horrible. Of course this was the only tour I went to . I heard he was good in following tours and expect him to be great next time he tours too since he has had a 3 year break.

very true. he was horrible on the Modern Guilt tour. which is a shame b/c i thought it was a great album.

  • his 2003 was awesome. my favorite show was the Union Chapel show that he did solo. it was professionally filmed, so there is video and audio out there.
  • "Modern Guilt" wasn't the greatest Beck album to see him. His "Guero" tour and "The Information" tour were both great. I also saw him on his "Sea Change" tour, which was great in a different way. The thing to remember about Beck is he changes his back-up band on every album and has a different vibe every time. He does STAND UP live though because he is a great musician. Go, and find out for yourself, but I'd say its worth it. I go every time.

I saw him in Vegas on Halloween maybe 5 or 6 years ago and he was awesome. The band all dressed as boy scouts and had this theme going all night where they would recite oaths and give out badges (i.e the "Beat Box" badge), etc. At one point while Beck was doing a few songs solo acoustic (which included a version of "Debra" that was awesome), the rest of the band was setting up the "dinner table". Once they finished and were sitting around "having dinner", Beck went into "Clap Hands" acoustic. You started hearing this really cool percussion behind it and before long you realize they had the table mic'd and the band was playing percussion with the silverware, glasses, etc from the dinner table. I thought the show was an absolute blast and I would go see Beck just about anywhere if he ever comes out of the studio and tours again.

Saw him in 02 and 05. 02 show was great. He was really into it and rocked out a song he seemed to be making up about Scottsdale as he sang. He hopped around to different instruments I will probably never see/hear again. Great show in an intimate setting.
The 05 was at the AZ State fair. It was all going well until he slowed it down fort solo acoustic stuff. The crowd started chucking glow sticks at him. We probably missed out on a half dozen more tunes as he ended the show soon after a glow stick hit his guitar. Not ever a good idea to slow down a show where people have been soaking in sunburns, beer, and copious amounts of everything fired on a stick.

I've heard that his shows are very hit-or-miss.

The one and only time I've seen him, I had a great time. I just wish I hadn't been so drunk so I'd remember more of it.

If you Have not Seen Beck you should. His new sets are not as fun as the older ones. I saw him in a very small venue (1993?) and I was given permission to sit on the stage. Later a crazed fan broke through the baricades and grabbed his leg (while his was busting a move!) . So they asked me to return to the crowd so other people would do that. She ruined it not only for Beck, but me as well. I really enjoyed his tour when he made his own instuments.....

I only saw him inJan 2001, his only time n Buenos Aires, I don't know which tour was, I had a great time, he didn't play The New Pollution, the one I was expecting, however it was a great show, it was the opening act for REM, a show before the release of Reveal, REM play The Lifting and She Just wants to be that night, and I was surprise that they played Walk Unafraid and The Great Beyond, I would have never expected those...

  • I would like to see him live but has he not retried from touring due to his family? I could be wrong but i'm sure I read that somewhere. The last time he was in the UK was 2008 I believe but I couldn't make it.

I have Odelay Deluxe Edition and Mutations, regular, Mutations is my fav, and The Information, love them... I don't like much the others, except for Odelay, which I like but not as much Mutations or Information... a pity that he isn't touring, and he never came back...

Yup, he's retired. He phoned in his last tour to fulfill a contract. And considering all of the producing he's been doing, you won't see him touring out of financial stress for quite some time.

That's a bummer, I'd really like to see him live. Oh well, he's gotta do what's right for him.

Speaking of Beck...is there any news of new music from him? I really loved Modern Guilt and reading that he's 'retired' is kind of worrying.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

While I have a few albums, and enjoy the hits, I was depressed when I found out he is a member of Scientology. I mean, WTF?? Its all a joke and those people know that Hubbard made it all up, right?
