If you could be (or had to be) famous for just one thing what would it be?

This makes me think of this question a teacher posed in art school. Would you rather be super famous for eternity, and but live/die penniless, or have a ton of money but then everyone would forget you once you died?

Considering how broke I was in school, I went with the latter without a second thought! It's an interesting concept though.

But if I had to choose fame for something, I guess it'd be my artwork.

I somewhat know what you mean, at least vicariously. My wife co-owns a well known used book store that she and her business partner started up 26 years ago. We can't go anywhere in the county without somebody coming up and saying, "Oh hi, [Bookstore Lady]." One time, when we were two states away hiking in the wilderness we passed a couple on the trail. Suddenly, I heard one of them say, "Well hello there [Bookstore Lady]!". Sheesh! I'm happy to keep my shades on and remain anonymous.

chiquimonkey, the question you posed- fame vs. fortune is interesting. Could one cheat and say they'd like to be remembered and famous for being very rich once and giving all their money away? :D

I would like to be known for my contribution to the Animal Kingdom :D

Unknowingly, I bred Hissing (Madagascar) Cockroaches with Death Head (skull-head) Cockroaches. Unfortunaltely for Citizens everywhere we now have flying, hissing, cockroaches with skulls for heads.
I think I killed most of them, but really, I will never fess up to that!

I wouldn't mind being famous for my writing. So far all I've gotten around to is my blog and a half-finished screenplay.

That might explain why, despite the fact that I've managed to befriend spiders of all shapes and sizes, crickets, grass hoppers, preying mantises, pill bugs, inch worms, all varieties of beetles, water striders, dragon flies, damsel flies, may flies, bee flies, stone flies, katydids (and didn'ts), a very few yellow jackets, and even the occasional zorapteran, yet I have never, I repeat NEVER been fond of cockroaches. Dearest STAYSEA, what have you done???

i'd totally go for the $$$.
once i'm dead, i'm dead...who cares if i am not remembered? but i'd have a really comfortable, awesome life. being remember is highly overrated. ;):mrgreen:

i'd love to be genius-level brilliant. i'm intelligent, but i am certainly not anywhere near being THAT kind of intelligent....and i think it would be so awesome. a more realistic choice would be famous for my photography. however, i do absolutely nothing to make that happen  ....and i don't much care about being famous in any case. just being happy would be a life well lived for me.

Me too. My goal is to completely anonymous. It's not going too well since it's nearly impossible.

After the car accident my husband and I were in, we were suddenly well known in our small town and everybody all of a sudden knew where we lived. I did not enjoy being well known for surviving an awful accident. It's just weird. But the outpouring of love and generosity was unbelievable at the same time.

Oh my, even a little accident is scary. I can't imagine a major one. I'm glad you both made it through that ok! :D
