I wondered this as well and I don't think they ever met each other...just my feeling.
  • no, he didn't. but you'd think he did by the way he talks in the movie ("Andy would have loved this"). it's weird.

How would they have met? EV didn't come to Seattle til Stone, Jeff and Mike were lookin for a singer after Andy died. Did any of Ed's bands play on any bills with the know Seattle musicians with connections to Andy. Doesn't seem like EV knew many of the Seattle guys, but he obviously had some connection with Irons.

how big was MLB at the time? were they "country-wide"? is it like people knowing the lead singer of KOL or another popular band nowadays?

We can say that he knew him from Stone, Jeff, and Chris's stories, right? He was (is) very, very close to them, so through the stories, he surely could claim to know him, rather than just know of him. I'm sure we can relate.
  • Eddie was obviously sincere, but I wondered the same thing

I think EV talks now about how good life is, and if only other musicians could have held on past all the difficult times it gets better.

I think it is this above sentiment combined with knowing Andy through pictures, stories, and most importantly a somewhat shared existence. Fronting a band and being friends with all the people that loved him. Not to mention the Temple of the Dog experience.

Must have bonded with those guys to a degree that he felt extremely close to Andy. (and took the torch from him...completing his journey and its a good one)

Plus in the movie I think playing arena's in front of 60K is what Andy dreamed of and Eddie knew that.

I guess it's not the first time Eddie's stretched to truth to make a story a little better. In the book he also talks about I Got Shit and how the chords are the same as Cinnamon Girl and that he recently realized it, but there' s bootleg from a show in Italy in 06 where he explains the whole story. I don't think the interviews for the book/movie were goin on that far back.

The interviews for the book are culled from a ton of different sources from the last twenty years. Their not specifically sourced but are indexed in the back.
