Please Explain What Remixed Means

Sorry if this has been discussed already but I'm just curious about this remixing of Ten. Does this mean songs may sound different than their original version? Like completely different? Does it mean the tracks could be in a different order than the original Ten was? Could we get a 'Release' track without thr extra 4 minutes of music at the end, which IMO makes it a bitch to put on any mixed cd's that I make. Any explanation or speculation from you guys would help. A completely different sounding Ten sounds very exciting but at the same time, I think Ten is one of the greastest albums of all time so why fix something that isn't broken? Thanks Happy Holidays!

Umm, it's hard to say. I am thinking along the lines of what they did with the "Let It Be" album when they remixed it into "Let It Be Naked" and stripped the songs down a little. But i could be way off. Brendan remixed a few of the songs on Lost Dogs, or was it Rearviewmirror, I can't remember.

Like how "Who You Are' is different on RVM? Wasn't Black also remixed. Its obvious what is different in 'Who You Are', but what was actually changed in
    Black'?
  • placement of sounds. volume of instruments and sounds MIXED together. it's pretty simple really. imagine a bunch of knobs and switches that basically move every sound up/down and right/left. if you notice when you put head phones on the stone's guitar is coming through strong in your right ear. thats a result of brendan obrien mixing. now imagine that in many different variables...

the musicians instrument has an individual signal which is sent to the mother board. then it is made magic production/recording engineers.

so to answer your question, there will probably be no re-recording of ten or adding to any of the performances, the only differences will be in the sound. which can only be better as far as Ten goes, IMO. now if you don't think there's a difference in both versions of black, listen again not for the performances but for the sound of the recording itself (there's less reverb*, and more standing out)....

*reverb- an effect that imitates hearing something in a large hall or room as oppose to hearing it in a closet

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! Just listened to the two versions of black back to back for the first time and I hear exactly what your saying. Thanks again

check out the remixed State of Love and Trust on the Rearviewmirror Greatest hits and the Singles soundtrack. It will also display the magic that is remixing.

I read once that the band wanted to remix ten because some of the tracks were too busy, not raw enough and had too much reverb and fills on it. A remixed version could be neat to hear if it is stripped down and certain guitar parts that were recorded but were faint are now readjusted and made louder....I look forward to the first listen of the remixed ten with my headphones!!!

I am REALLY excited to hear this now, now that I have an idea what they are gonna do. With 'Who You Are', was the different line in the RVM version rerecorded later or was it an outtake from when they originally recorded it?

on black they placed ed's opening vocals and the opening riff more front and center...the original Ten version had an effect on the vocals and riff that made them sound like they were coming from a radio or such (a la the wish you were here intro).

In the press release on the website, BOB said something about taking the tracks apart and remixing. The new sound is gonna be f---ing amazing.

Will we call the remixed version "New Ten" or just "Ten"?

    Get over here!
  • i'm aware of what obrien did, he probably did all of the tracks at once btw.

anyway, that has nothing to do with the fact that like the even flow on RVM, SOLAT on RVM is just a different recording all together than what's on the original/popular singles soundtrack version .

from what i've read they just thought there was too much reverb on the record, so the remix will probably have more of a live in studio feel to it, which is the way they've recorded most of their albums since then... so less reverb on the guitars and ed's voice, etc... although there really wasn't much difference in the mixes that were done for rearviewmirror in my opinion, but that's just me, still should be cool, can't wait!

  • but does that mean that we'll get once, alive and black sounding just the same as on gratest hits OR will brendan re-re-re mix it again for the re-release of Ten?

  • like i said before, i wouldn;t be suprized if brendan obrien remixed all of them at once and then epic diecided to preview them on RVM and hold the rest for the re-release. I'm sure we would all be suprized how much planning goes into future releases....
