Matt Cameron is Awesome

After seeing the weirdness today I just wanted to add that I think Matt Cameron is an awesome drummer. Although I also enjoyed Jack's contributions to the band quite a bit (and Dave's), I feel that Matt is Pearl Jam's TRUE drummer....especially since he recorded on the early demos..it's like things finally came full circle. I can't imagine the band having another drummer anymore.

Matt was the drummer when I became a a fan, and I remember listening to some 00 European boots and loving the drum parts. Just a few weeks ago I was watching the Matt-Cam from Touring Band and Live at the Garden and thinking about how awesome it was.

A buddy of mine went to the local PJ20 screening with me Tuesday night. I'd classify him as nothing more than a casual fan. If there wasn't beer he may not have gone. At some point during the film he says to me "Matt Cameron is fucking awesome". Nothing for me to do but agree with a nod.

Matt Cameron can drive a rail road tie with one hit of a drum stick.

Matt is a fantastic drummer, and I love his stuff, but (and I don't mean this disrespectfully) I don't like the way he plays some of the songs from before he was in the band. Corduroy comes to mind, where on the record during the verses the drums keep their own beat, Matt often plays along to the rhythm of the guitars, and I don't like the way it sounds, and he does it with some other songs. It's hard to explain, but it's like instead of keeping a rhythm he joins in with the rhythm of the guitars. Some people might like that, but it's why I prefer the studio recording of Corduroy over any recording done with Matt. The way he plays it is definitely more complicated and I'm sure more difficult, but not necessarily better. I think sometimes he might be a little TOO good of a drummer.

Yeah. I like Matt, but I don't like how fast some songs are played now.

I really and truly believe that if Matt hadn't joined the band, there would never have been PJ20.

So yes, Matt Cameron is AWESOME!

Interesting point. I'm not sure which version I prefer, but I'm leaning towards the newer (faster) version.
