Open Floor???

While I am listening to V.S, I have had an epiphany. With PJ back doing festivals again, and the enormity of their success and safety at these festivals. Maybe it could be time for no seats on the floor for us FANS. We are all very knowledgeable in most facets of PJ shows. How to conduct ourselves. How to rock. It would be amazing to really get the crowd going, and allow us all to rock out as one.
Thoughts??Possibilities???

in the uk and europe we mainly get to stand and rock out with no seating on the floor,it makes for a more intense concert experiance and certainly pumps up the band.come to europe for the best pearl jam fix.

GA all the way. It means you have to spend all day waiting in line (which can totally build up the anticipation), but it means if you really want to be right at the front then you can be!

nothing like G.A to get your fix of the boys, even if you have to wait 8 hours to get to the front

I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
  • The drawback to GA shows is that it's survival of the fittest. That means that it's all big guys who can push their way to the front. At Irving Plaza, I stood in line all day and was able to get in the second row, but there were so many large males all around me that I could hardly see the stage and I couldn't move AT ALL. It was very uncomfortable. Randall's Island was also GA and I got near the front, but as soon as the band took the stage, the press of the crowd was overwhelming. I really thought I was going to be crushed to death (after about 6 songs I was pulled out by security).
  • I'm a big guy and I absolutely hate GA floor. If I'm up front I'm too busy dealing with the crowd to lose myself in the show...
  • Being a small female I hate GA floors. I get crushed and can't see and spend most of the time trying to avoid being trampled, not to mention the drunk frat boys who feel they are entitled to shove their hand up or down your shirt and/or pants.
  • I'm not a fan of GA. It seems to involve too much effort in attaining a good spot rather than just enjoying the show. And, of course, there are the safety issues. If some future shows have this, I'm sure it will be an interesting experience. But, I'd probably just rather have my reserved seats.

I hate GA, which is the only reason that I will likely skip the next Europe tour. But I can understand why people like GA shows. just not for me.

One of the big downfalls of the GA shows in 2007 was posters - you either don't get one or you have to hang way back on the floor (or it will get shushed). At least they fixed that problem with the wrist bands this year.

That's right. And I am willing to bet that the OP of this thread is one of those tall males who will do anything to push their way through no matter what comes in their way, a shorter female or otherwise.

  • Actually I am about 5'10 160 lbs. Pretty average.
I understand and like the opinions of all parties involved, and did not think back to my Lollapalooza experience 07'. I rocked out for the first set, but than Crazy Mary came on and there was crowd surfing, and unintelligent people doing unintelligent things. It made me very uncomfortable thinking that someone could possibly fall onto my head during, " Take a bottle Pass it down." I moved my way back from what was a tenth row area, just because it was too much to handle. However, I do believe that the GA on a regular tour venue would be solely PJ Fan Club Members, and that we and the Band know how to conduct ourselves at the amazing shows. Especially in the great city of CHICAGO! Evanston born and raised!
The GA is something I hope for, because it is something I never got to experience at the clubs or smaller venues. I have been raised on Stadium PJ shows. Which I can't complain about. I just want to experience PJ with that small venue feeling. Which would happen with GA, because of THEY being awesome and the FANS being truly loving of THEIR awesomeness.

never a fan of ga! i'm a kinda of guy who dies for live music but would stay to the sides or behind the crowded area and enjoy watching the band, feeling the music & the crowd noise .. just getting lost with the music & the atmosphere around me. why i love seated seats, what pearl jam & many other bands are doing. being there with friends next to you, front, back & sides enjoying the show's, their drink, their smoke, thy merchandise, and not having to worry if somebody pushes you, hits you, causes fights etc ..

aswell, i hate that 'fan' that pushes their way to the front, pushing and shoving other's that have been there for so long waiting up close, that they feel it's right, that they should be up close as they just got to the venu when the band just started with the first song of the set. fuck that, imo!

Is that the same show where Eddie kept stopping and yelling at the crowd to settle down?

Are you the one who Eddie referred to as "darlen" when security carried her out?

I'm sure that some fan club members would still be ass holes and shove their way to the front of a GA floor. Being in the 10 Club doesn't mean someone won't be a jerk. In addition, I don't think having a GA floor would create the same atmosphere as seeing the band in a small venue.

If Pearl Jam would ever go back to having GA floors I hope they give 10 Club members a choice of being on the floor or having reserved seats on the side. My wife has had bad experiences with GA and I wouldn't want that to ruin a Pearl Jam concert out for us. We like having our own personal space at concerts and don't have to be up front to enjoy the show.

    how about this?

GA.. so first come first serve... but with chairs...!!!

This is the thing.. I like waiting in day all line... or if I would have to I'd camp out. But what I don't like is being surrounded by a bunch of morons who are just there to flail their bodies around and try to hurt people. So if chairs are in place, then maybe we could have the best of both worlds.

In a small venue I wouldn't mind GA with out chairs if all of the people in GA are Ten Club members. This doesn't automatically mean that they won't be morons and push people around, but I think history tells us hardcore PJ fans don't tend to act that way.

  • I don't like waiting in line all day...I'd much rather show up early, go to a wishlist thing at a bar, get a little drink on, then hit the show without having to worry about where I'm gonna be...I haven't found the energy to be lacking in any way with chairs...

they should think about sectioning off the floor into "pens" with wrist bands - in other words, a certain amount of loyals can make it in the first pen, but this allows for a little room at the band of the area when the band takes stage - then pen 2 etc. similar to the heart or ovary idea of U2's - if you end up inside the stage you are actually more comfortable than outside - they only allow a certain amount and when the people press to the stage there is actually a considerable amount of room about 15 feet back to be comfortable.

  • The last two shows i went to were both GA (Dublin 06 and Wembley 07) and i had different experiences at both of them. At the Dublin gig we set out to get there early but we sort of got lost (we drove down from the north!) as a result we didn't get as close to the front as we wanted, there was a sort of a pit for those lucky enough to get first in line or have tenclub tickets, we got to the front of the second barrier and it was one of the scariest experiences of my life! if i hadn't have got a hold of that rail i don't know what would have happened.I didn't relax and enjoy the show till about six songs in when my wife, her sister and her guy all let security take them over the barrier,I stayed were i was and was able to relax abit. Now at wembley i took my brother with me and we lined up from 10am and we got to about four rows from the front, i was shitting myself thinkin back to Dublin.I was thinkin " i'm four rows from the front i've no rail to hold onto! when this gig starts i'm gonna go over!" but the gig started and it was nothin like that at all, we had plenty of room to stand and enjoy the show( one of the best times of my life by the way!)I don't know if it was because the floor was all tenclub members or if it was just us mad irish in Dublin!! so it can go both ways in my opinion but now that i've been up front i wouldn't mind havin seatin tickets for the next show.
  • too many idiots in the US looking to start problems or a fight

watch video of some of the South America shows... or Portugal

    simply Amazing

    but in the US

people are too worried about their space or "feeling gay' that some guy is pushing up on them

    sad but true

That system clearly favours those with high 10C numbers. I don't see what anyone has to benefit from such a system unless they have a high 10C number.
