what the hell i?s hap(oops all directio  ns at once roller coaster)pening to me
the other day i fucked shit up involuntarily. it was disgustingly sickening. beyond any dizziness i have ever experienced before.

they're going to do a brain scan to rule out any sort of minor stroke. (rule out any sort of minor stroke) no fucking strokes here ever i hope.

during this horrific episode i was on multiple amusement park rides all at the same time; i was going in every direction possible all together as one, feeling and having the visuals of the spinning carnival of shit, yet, was at my house.

i was super sick. i was hallucinating. i was sweating prosusely and could barely sit in my chair. all this happened in the snap of your fingers. i was very close to calling 911. matter of fact i don't know why we never dialed 911.

while walking to my mom's for help things were in black and white and looked like red and green film had been placed over black and white pictures, sometimes flashing. the grass alongside the sidewalks was so straight and sharp it could slice you. i saw shapes flying around inside my head as well as those violent roller coaster rides. up down up down all around getting thrown around at maddening speeds and

anyone here have this stuff going on?

Sure, lots of vertigo... Try doing aerobatics at night, the lack of vision paired with the extended zero gravity moments can really disorient a dude. Kinda like taking too big of a bong hit and getting dizzy.. Ok, not really...

Dont know about your disease, sorry.

Nope. Not even close..Those guys are seeing how many G's they can sustain before passing out.
What I was mentioning had to due with lack of vision and extended periods of zero gravity. Kind of the exact opposite.

    It's actually quite the hoot.

are you eating a low sodium diet? it might help but I'm not sure. I understand it is not a disease, it is just called menieres or however you spell it. I think it is hard to diagnose. I have tinnitus and light headedness besides nerve damage in my ears. I can't hear mumblers....The ear, nose and throat doctor wouldn't put it in writing that I have menieres. I think it can affect your drivers' license. Good luck. p.s. I began going to the audiologist maybe 3 years ago and I complained of some episodes of tinnitus for the past 20 years. Her tests left me with permanent damage. It wasn't your typical hearing test where you click when you hear a beep. Forgot what this horrible static test was that she repeated 3x and laughed about it :( The hiss never quits. I never experience silence.

PM me if you want to talk more about it.

I've suffered with bouts of dizziness/vertigo since summer 2008. Initially shrugged off by a locum GP as being labyrinthitis, my GP referred me to the ENT in Summer 2009 to see if they could find out what was causing it. An MRI turned up nothing, and they tentatively diagnosed menieres.

To date my 6 monthly hearing tests haven't produced any hearing loss on the test... though I know my hearing when in a group of people is useless compared to what it was. My tinnitus is also much worse than it used to be.

I was largely free of dizziness through 2010, the odd day here and there, but I've been off work for a total of 3.5 months this year as a result of episodes of dizziness, I tend to have on-off bouts of it over 2-3 weeks and then it takes me a long time to recover from the tiredness. I'm lucky though in some ways, because I have a fucked optic nerve meaning my brain has to over-compensate for the inability to focus, I don't have anywhere near the level of problems relating to vision, just exacerbated levels of nausea and sickness.

A low sodium diet is recommended, as is giving up caffeine and alcohol. A lot also depends what medication they put you on, though it sounds like you're a way off being prescribed anything. I'm on a diuretic to help reduce the salt levels in my body and also take stemetil (prochlorperazine) daily, having previously tried Betahistine (sold in the US as SERC) which I turned out to be allergic to, and cinnarizine (which is basically the same kind of thing as a sea-sickness tablet). I believe you may be able to get that over the counter easily enough, might be worth buying some in case things kick up again.

I had my first bout of "inner ear" in 1988 or so and have had the bad spells intermittently. My doctors have said I should be tested for Meniere's but I haven't done it. Another cause is allergies and I have always had bad allergies, i.e. hayfever, congestion, bronchitis, sinusitis, etc. and always attributed it to that (as I was told that was another cause). I've always had motion sickness, even as a young child - could never get on the Merry-go-round, and sometimes even sitting in a swing would do it. And just forget being on a boat! But anyway, I didn't have the bad spells until I was an adult. And it hits all of a sudden with no warning - just immediately your world is spinning and you can barely walk. When it happens I just lie still on the bed and try not to move. At times it was so bad that when I finally had to move my head because my neck was getting stiff from being in one position I would throw up. It is pure misery. And not much to do about it except take pills like Dramamine, Antivert etc. Even going to the ER is not worth the misery because they just give you the same stuff and you have the added misery of having to drive there and wait in the ER. Taking pills and sleeping it off is all I can do.

I had it happen to me once about 15 years ago. It really sucked. I threw up - if I lifted my head from the pillow the room felt like it was spinning. I got antivert to take, and it went away, and haven't had it since. My husband has dealt with some vertigo, and he felt it was related to taking prilosec. Some people have this thing where there are crystals in your inner ear fluid, and there's this weird maneuver that if you do, that can settle the crystals and make the vertigo subside. I'm trying to remember how it went - I think you sit on the edge of your bed and then pretty energetically throw yourself to the side. That sounds insane I know, but google it and see what you find. He did something like this for a while (not just one day) and it seemed to help but ask someone about it.

it's happening right now but lightly. earlier today i had ringing in my ears and it has been happening more often, or im noticing it more so. had ringing today while swimming. just 5 minutes ago i was on a roller coaster and dizzy as can be. ready to feel like vomitting. it makes my pupils feel big like i did some speed.

since my horrifying experience weeks ago i been walking with a cane and crash into shit most all day long when i'm up on my feet moving about.

My total empathy goes out to all who have had to deal with the mind-fuck known as vertigo.

I found that cutting out nuts, red wine, drinking lots of water and lowering salt helps prevent both migraines and vertigo. If I believe I may be heading for an attack of vertigo, I start taking Claritin every morning for three or four days. In an acute case, I take Meclizine which helps me ride out the hellish waves.

Best wishes to all of you who have struggled with this.

thank you for advicing us. i drink shit loads of water so im good there. i don't use salt as a rule but every blue moon i have found myself salting extremely bland foods, this is rare though. nuts. i enjoy my share of nuts. yep, they are salty.

no red wine here. no alcohol of any sort actually. i am grateful i have not been one with regular migraines. i think i have had a couple but i can't be certain. they were the worst head aches i ever had. i would guess they were something like a migraine or light cases of migraines.
