    Yeah 24 years old.

Used to be a country only guy until about 2 or 3 years ago. Got to college and then my music tastes expanded. Got introduced to the Philly rock station which has turned me on to a few different things.

So I know this will explode into a big conversation, but are there any songs or live concerts that I MUST listen to? B/C I listened to a Camden NJ and Albany NY show and it was pretty similar. So didn't feel too much different.

    All righty thanks everybody!

  • I have a question about Ten Club....If I become a member right now do i still get the same priveledges as people who have been members forever? How does it work with getting tickets new members vs old members? Isn't it the longer you have been a member the more priority you get with tickets? Do new members still have a good chance as anyone else to get good tickets? Thank you guys

My opinion, get the Italy 06 shows: Bologna, Verona, Milan, Torino, Pistoia. A shorter, more visual version can be seen on the Immagine in Cornice DVD. But the boots in their entirety are phenomenal. Small note, the Torino boot, they played the entire Avocado album from start to finish in order. Truly worth listening to.

So I just started listening to Pearl Jam about a week and a half ago and have fallen in love with their music! They are really good. I now have all of their studio albums except for Ten. I found a used music store locally and traded in stuff I never listen to for a bunch of their albums. They are the first group where I like their Live versions much better than the studio stuff.

Man of the Hour is easily my favorite song. All righty, that's it for now!

Sort of a long story, but definitely worth telling!! Here's the long version:

Went to college in Phoenix AZ listening to only country and had a roommate who was from Philly and he got me into the Goo Goo Dolls and Fall Out Boy in particular. Well there was also this daily podcast that he listened to religiously. It is from WMMR out of Philadelphia called the Preston and Steve morning show. It is HILARIOUS and I recommend everyone listen to it on Itunes. But thats my little plug for them. I have been listening to them religiously for a year and a half and one of the people on the show named Nick is a HUGE PJ fan. They play a game called crackshot every once in a while and if you can stump the show members they got shot in the butt with a BB gun. His area of expertise is the band Pearl Jam of course. Ahh ( long breath). he has been talking about them for ever. So a friend of mine also related to my old college roommate is also a huge PJ fan, so a couple weeks back I decided to get the Greatest hits package to see what the fuss was about. I really liked it, so I sent Nick from the show an email asking him what songs to recommend from the GH album. He wasn't familiar with that album only the studio stuff. But he recommended Live at Benaroya Hall CD. Went to my local Used music store, (which I never knew existed, but is Awesome!!) and looked for it but they did not have it. So I bought vitalogy and a live at mansfield bootleg and I was hooked!! I love there live stuff! I got benaroya off Ebay a week ago and have since traded in a bunch of old cd's and have all the studio albums except for Ten, which I will get on my next trip! I also think the live stuff is better, but that is rare for me to say about music.

So there it is, my ride to PJ!! Long, but a cool story.

On a side note, do any other bands do these bootlegs?? I am going to open up another topic about it. I LOVE how they sell every show they do.

    Thanks!!

Welcome in a world called Pearl Jam, be carefull though I can be very addictive.

But yes, there are more bands who have bootlegs. But Pearl Jam will always be the first band in history who started a bootleg program. I believe 'the Black Crowes' tried something, Metallica offers some digital bootlegs to their fans. And 'the Who' have offered bootlegs.

There was also a time (pre-2000) were PJ didn't released bootlegs of their shows and there are some great unofficial bootlegs outthere that need to be heard. Like some Dutch 92 shows (amsterdam and utrecht) or the soldier field 95 and red rocks 95 shows.
You can download most live shows all around the web, but may I recommend:
    http://inthepresenttense.blogspot.com/
    http://www.pearljamamerica.com/
    http://www.pearljamevolution.blogspot.com/

But like I said be carefull, it can be addicted. It's a whole universe, and before you know it you're into everything. All the pre-pearl jam stuff (green river, mother love bone, temple of the dog) or all the sidebands (brad, mad season, three fish, rockfords, wellwater conspiracy) or even the solo records (gossard, vedder and ament now have one). Or you find yourself collecting vinyl or posters, or like some collecting video bootlegs.3

Enjoy and discover and look forward to you first real live show!

Dude, wait till that vinyl bug hits you. Maybe it won't, but I thought the same thing. I started slow with the X-mas singles. one by one till eventually I had them all. I said, HA, I have all the studio releases on CD, why would I possibly need them on vinyl? Then I saw some good deals and one by one I got all the records. Then Into the Wild came out and I had to get that. Then I broke down for a Benny hall vinyl, then a Ten basketball UK vinyl, then a Footsteps in Paradise vinyl, then a couple singles. Shit, is there anything else I need? Probably. But I put it on hiatus due to the shitty economy and when (if) it gets better, I'll be on the hunt again. good luck with your growing collection.

It's a Italian picture disc I found on ebay with mostly live tracks from 92-93. It has a pic of eddie crowd surfing on the front with the silouettes of the band on the Ten cover on the back. Not an official release but still pretty cool. Has tracks like hunger strike, rockin in the free world, alive, evenflow and a real early live version of animal.

Woah, that's a nice compliment to their live shows but seriously?

I've heard PJ live plenty of times but for me there are a few songs they don't play nearly as well as in studio.... RVM and Even Flow are two examples. Their live versions don't hold a candle to the studio ones imo.

  • Too bad you aren't old like me when all we had were vinyl. I have five moving boxes full of albums that I would never part with including first editions of Beatles IV and Rolling Stones Stickey Fingers and Exile on Main Street, Zeppelin, the Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia, Neil Young's Harvest, Blind Faith's first with the original cover to name a few. Back then your stereo components were your most important investment and record stores lined the streets of towns. It's really cool that vinyl's making a resurgence and my son is getting to experience the thrill of opening an album and reading the liner notes as you listen through the first play. I've had my turntable hooked up for years to listen to the Xmas in July singles each year but haven't opened those boxes in years from their dark, correct temperature closet in which they remain. Sometimes being old isn't such a bad thing. Imagine a day without cell phones and ipods, just hanging with friends who walked over to listen to a new album you bought the day it came out. Good times.

Yeah I remember using vinyl, but by the time I got into music it was mostly cassettes.

I am looking forward to the backspacer release as it will be my first new release (outside of the Ten Redux) and I feel it might be their best yet.
