call the police or hang up the phone and call later or not?

folks with the law on their speed dial irritate me. every little thing sets them off so they call the authorities each and every single time.

neighbors have stereo turned up... phone the law-way
kids on dirtbikes raising hell out on lost gravel country roads...phone the law
throwing snowballs at a car...call the cops
kids out smokin some simple assed grass...better inform the sheriff

folks all over the law agitate the hell out of me. why can't more people take matters into their own hands and or look away when it comes to simple bullshit. and who really gives a shit about petty crap anyhow? most law officers laugh and joke about the asshole snitchin little bitches anyhow. yet they line up to rat out anyone and everyone. weird folks.

I called the cops a little while ago because a drunk man was in my shop yelling abuse at me and my customers and after telling him to "F*@ck Off!" he still wouldn't leave.
The first time I rang them, they didn't come at all, the second time they came, they just drove past and kept driving.
I ran outside and waved them down and they said they weren't going to come in the shop because they saw the door closed and presumed everything was okay. I asked the question, what if he was in there with me? and they laughed! :?

I think a bat is excessive if I already have a gun. :D

There are two sides to everything...
Like, the flight instructor in Florida that didn't call anyone to report that Mohammed Atta just wanted to learn how to fly a 767... versus the guy in Minnesota that called the cops when some guy was just interested in flying, but not taking off or landing. Turns out, the latter guy was supposed to fly the fifth airliner on September 11, 2001. Hero or Snitch?
And what about all of those witnesses to the rape of a 15 year old at a school dance... and none of them called the cops? Should they have... or should they have just assumed it was consentual teenaged sex?
A couple of things happened to me... First one was a couple, screwing in the park. I didn't know if it was a rape in progress or two people screwing. I rolled up on my bike and said some shit, in case it was a rape. Turns out, it was two drunk homeless people screwing. I told them to take it some place else.
The other was a kid, beating the crap out of another... while a third kid stood by. I slammed on my brakes and yelled at thme to stop. The kid giving the beating said it was his brother. I asked the kid being beaten if it was true. He said, yes. I thought about it and said, 'Carry on'. I know, having 3 brothers... that shit happens. I knew that making them stop would cool them off a bit and the one kid wasn't going to beat him up too bad.
If either case was more threatening and it turned out to be a rape ot a servere beating... or I felt that my intervention was going to lead to harm to me... I would have called the cops.
    ...
But, yeah... loud music or kids riding dirt bikes or smoking pot... no need to call the cops. I guess we all have to do what our inner morals tell us to do.

First, Hi Chad! Long time no talk to.....We're back in New England (our first time) for Jeanie's wedding and have had a fabulous time! Soooo glad we came. :) I was sad we didn't make it down to meet you both when she visited a few years ago.

Re the post, I do know what you mean unfortunately. We have a new neighbor that has managed to piss everyone off by being obnoxious themselves but calling everyone else on music, etc. She evidently calls all the neighbors telling them to turn down their music until she finds out who it is? She called us when we were playing a youtube video on our computer. Yet, she practices her awful piano two times daily! Quite annoying to say the least! haha So far no police involved but I expect it at any time! So very silly and a waste to get any authorities involved over trivial matters. :)

I think this is key to some situations. My neighbors woke me up having social hour on their patio in the middle of the night every single night after they moved in until I went over there and asked them to keep it down. It was surprisingly effective - for a few months. But now they wake me up screaming and fighting at all hours of the night and, frankly, I'm scared to get in the middle of that shit. Sometimes I want to call the cops just to get them to shut the fuck up, but they have a new baby (all the more reason for them to stop fighting) and I don't want to get them kicked out. If I ever thought I heard physical violence, though, I'd call the cops without first going over there to confirm what I heard.

I had an old neighbor in another place who used to party all night and I was scared to tell him to shut the fuck up. He eventually got arrested for murder. Glad I had left him alone.
