First of all, I'm rather new here............... So HELLO!!!!!!!!!! My name's Anna, and I've been a PJ fan since seeing them at Leeds festival '06. Not very long I know, but better late than never, yes?!?!

Anyway............. I don't know any PJ fans. When I tell people they are my favourite band they are like, 'who??' Or 'ohh ten is the only decent record they did' or they just generally give me an odd look. Soooo, I've decided to try and get some of my friends into them by making a cd! Now should I pick MY favourites or the most popular songs???? I want to do this because I feel people are missing out!

Love. x

Hi Anna! First off, get used to it. A lot of people just don't realize the talent that the band has.

As for making a CD, I find that it's best to use your favorites with hits sprinkled throughout the CD. Not too many hits, but enough to make them feel comfortable.

Reaviewmirror is a decent albulm to give people with a lot of their hits, and Yield of course.
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...

  • welcome Anna!

my advise is target your audience! think of what the musical preference is of the person you are giving the cd to

do they like slow mellow type songs or fast and furious type songs or songs with a little country flavor or songs sprinkled with punk rock goodness

then make them a cd the suits their taste..once you hook them in they will explore the other stuff

What ever songs you decide I would use live versions. Even my mother prefers the live stuff to the studio versions. She plays GTF over & over again. It captures their energy better.

Tough to say what will get people's ear but one thing I did not too long ago at a bar-b-que was put on the first cd from Mansfield 03 (the acoustic one) as background music just loud enough to hear but not enough to drown out the conversation. Some people sat back and listened and asked about it. Later I put on more thrashy stuff to liven up the party. Worked well.

    hi Anna! :)

i say pick the songs, that you like.
doesn't have to be hits or what people tell you to copy for them.
do what you feel that sounds good to you.
has that edge that will get them into pearl jam.

now if that doesn't work, go for plan b.
a good beating might do the trick.
    j/k.

yep, been there, done that, got the T shirt :o, so then people usually ask "what sort of music is it", and I say "rock-ish" or "do you remember Grunge?" and when they still look blank I say "have you heard of Nirvana?" and they're like "yeah of course" and so it goes on.......very frustrating

As to your question - i'd agree with another poster who said, pick some songs you like and give them a varied mix

Im from England and love PJ too :)
  • Hey Anna

I know the feeling I love this band and not many of my friends like them. I first saw them in 2006 too. I was at the Paris show. I've made many cds with diffrent mix of songs. I say you let people hear a live show.

LIVE SHOW... First of all keep one thing in mind... if you are talkin to a serious music fan, you will not get a weird look... PEARL JAM has sold over 40 million CDs and are known to be one of the best live bands ever and have been voted greatest American Rock band in USA today... Also, they are they completely revolutionized BOOTLEGS... and are basically the ONLY/LAST SEATTLE SURVIVERS... they sell out ALL THEIR SHOWS... SO, anyone who has a intelligent MUSIC IQ Should know some of this whether they are a huge fan of the band or not...

To your question however, i agree with the LIVE SHOW idea... You have to feel the band and feel ED and his words and how much it means to them to be up there playing specifically to their fans... GORGE 06 SHOWS... BONAROO 08... MSG 98... Start them with something like that in my opinion... MSG 2 03... for someone who likes more harder and the hits... MSG 1 03 for the person who will appreciate the rarities a little more...

Ok, i could keep on goin, but you prob get my point! haha

  • I always start every Pearl Jam mix cd I make someone off with Nothingman from Mansfield 2003 because Eddie says "alright let's see if you like this" and I end them with Release because of Master/Slave at the end. Seems to hook a lot of people. Also stay away from the stuff where you can't understand Eddie. Let them ease into it. Hit them with emotion like Thin Air, Black, Off He Goes.

I'm also the only one of my friends that likes Pearl Jam

    hey, and welcome!

You will find parallel stories to your own here my friend, the majority of us have been looked at strangely in regards to our fondness to PJ :D

    Mix CD??
Go from album to album and pick maybe two "hits" and two "non hits" ;)
