I'm a big 60's music fan and have always loved the Beach Boys. Is anyone going to pick up the Smile sessions box set or two disc edition on Nov 1? For any newbies, Smile was going to be the follow up to Pet Sounds until Brian Wilson had a breakdown and the band dissented on the album's direction. Here's an article on the album sessions:

I see a Christmas list forming
Because someone's performance when he is 70 should reflect on the quality of his music 45 years ago. Give me a fuckin break

Yeah, that's relevant.
If somebody sucked when you saw them in 1976, why did you basically see the same artist thirty-five years later?
Anyway, I was just wondering if any Beach Boys/brian wilson/60's music fans were excited for the release of the Smile sessions. I'm looking forward to it!

WTF does that have to do with a box set of session tapes from 1967? Explain that to me. I'd like to know.
Thank you. I'm trying to see who else is interested in an album that has gained so much of a legend over the years. I think it's pretty cool this is being released since Wilson wouldn't even talk about in interviews for a long time and said he destroyed all the tapes. I hope it's great and is a clear extension from the brilliance of pet sounds.

Haven't listened to the big set yet, but the reconstructed album is actually quite enjoyable. I'm not sure yet if it lives up to the hype, but the story behind the album is fascinating nonetheless, and hearing these tunes (or fragments of them in certain cases) performed by the Beach Boys is equally fascinating.
I've always loved "Heroes and Villains" and the version here seems quite expanded, with different musical motifs from the album thrown in for good measure.
This has also brought me back to Brian Wilson's 2004 recording of the album, which I bought at the time, listened to maybe once or twice, thought "meh" and put on the shelf, where it's remained since. It's now back off the shelf and in my rotation, and I've gained a new appreciation for that effort, especially the instrumentation, which sounds nearly identical to many of these 66/67 recordings.
I'll be listening to this for a while, I think, and will probably make new posts as new revelations are made to me through the music.
What does everyone else think of this release?
I'm not hearing it...perhaps my ear isn't as discerning
This is pretty much my exact opinion as well. The "missing" parts do hurt a few songs. "Roll Plymouth Rock" and "On A Holiday" in particular. But overall, it's very enjoyable to listen to.
