Dark Side Of The Moon
Wish You Were Here
Animals
The Wall
Meddle
Then go from there.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
Love all the love for Animals!!! Dogs is probably my personal fave.
DOSTM is the one to start with though. Then The Wall and Wish You Were Here. The first 2 don't have any of those extremely long songs, except that they're kind of one song LPs.
Thankful my children will never be able to make the same statement as you.
Wish You Were Here
Dark Side of the Moon
Meddle
Animals
The Wall

Actually I feel really envious that you are hearing some of this stuff for the first time, that is very cool.I have been listening to them since infancy so it is very ingrained in my psyche.
You are listening with fresh ears to the stuff that is never played on radio.
Enjoy my friend enjoy!
“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”
I haven't really enjoyed any of the stuff I've tried and listened to :(
I started with Dark Side Of The Moon. I found it boring; it meandered, it just didn't capture me.
I've also listened to Animals and Wish You Were Here, and once again I just found it all a bit pointless.
Interestingly, my favourite of the records I've heard so far is The Division Bell. A few good songs on there, notably High Hopes.
Obviously Pink Floyd have a HUGE following so they must've done something right. But this music just isn't for me.
 What were you doing when you were listening?
The best way to get Floyd under your skin is to create ambience, chill out, lights down low,lay back and listen, really listen, let it take you places you haven't been.
“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”
Have you tried listening with headphones on, in a dimly lit room, after a few glasses of something nice. Seriously try again, relax and just go with it.
It's funny you say Division Bell, I don't like them quite as much without Roger Waters.

It's already been sung, but it can't be said enough...
It takes Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Maybe Floyd just isn't your thing. But the headphones suggestion is a good idea. Give Dark Side one more shot where you can just chill out with the 'phones on and focus on the music. And if that doesn't do it for you, so be it.
Speaking as a huge Floyd fan now, I can somewhat understand where he is coming from. For years and years I always said they were one of the most overrated bands in the world, and all their shit just sounded the same. Then as I got older and got away from a lot of the bullshit that I used to listen to then I really sat down and gave them a chance and then I really feel like "I got it" one day. Now besides PJ, Floyd and Tool share the spots of my favorite bands. I think I was just really turned off to them because I kept hearing the same songs over and over on the radio. Maybe one day you'll like them, maybe not. Not everybody likes the same stuff.

Well "the Wall" actually got me hooked, but Dark Side Of The Moon or Wish You Were here
if just starting why not go with Echoes the greatest hits disc they released a while back, a great sampling of the whole catalog One of the best GH albums out there, not on itunes.
Itunes just did release a bunch of the albums remastered with lots of extras though.
Wish or Dark can't go wrong with any of them, wall is a bit more thematic though.
Wish You Were here has 5 songs, 2 of them total 25 minutes (Shine On You Crazy Diamond pts 1-9), Welcome To The Machine, Unreal, Have a Cigar, unreal, Wish You Were Here, unreal.
Dark Side of the Moon has the most songs, fucking unreal album
Dark Side is a great soundtrack to getting it on. Thus the placement of The Great Gig in the Sky about 20 minutes in.

Pink Floyd is very much a case of where the different band leaders really influence their sounds.
I would start with the middle era, as its where everyone is working together as a team. Dark Side, Wish You Were Here or Meddle, probably in that order.
If you want to check out the Waters era, go for Animals, The Wall and the Final Cut. The Wall and Animals are absolute classics.
Gilmour era isnt the strongest stuff, but the Division Bell is a pretty solid album.
Once you've checked out this stuff, go back and listen to the Barrett era stuff.
I would NOT recommend starting with Piper.
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
Begin with the live version of "The Dark Side of The Moon" (Live At The Empire Pool, Wembley, London 1974) in the "The Dark Side of The Moon: Experience Edition". I think this is the real version of the song. The Great Gig In The Sky and Money are mixed together.
After "Echoes" Roger Waters wanted to make a song longer than a side of an lp and that was "The Dark Side of The Moon"
Dark Side, as most people have said. And def. get their best-of album, Echoes, as it is a fine showcase of their career. Even if the idea of a band who did concept albums is a bit strange to have a best-of album.

Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You were Here are 2 of the greatest albums ever recorded, imo. You cant go wrong with them. Any Pink Floyd is great, but I'd steer clear of the really early stuff. Lately Ive been listening to a Momentary Lapse of Reason and the Division Bell, and of course the Wall is brilliant.

That's a shame, Pink Floyd are a great band but if it doesn't grip you then it's not the end of the world. Personally I'd have taken the Syd Barrett route first and gone from there rather than listening to everyone shout their favourite albums out but maybe it just isn't for you. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is a really good album and I'd probably rank Animals and Meddle as my favourites. Maybe you could find someone who has a copy of the Pulse dvd because if watching that doesn't move you at all then you will have to keep exploring the alternatives. Personally I grew up musically in the late 70's onwards on a diet of Scorpions, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Gillan and the obligatory Led Zep, Sabs and Deep Purple but with an older sister preaching the merits of Pink Floyd and Rush which I didn't truly get then but now I find them both amazing. Maybe some people will find this sacriligious but I can see why you might find it boring as I did once too. Maybe you need some really good weed but then sometimes that can make anything sound ok.....
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

Well then there's a whole gamut of good stuff of theirs out there for you to listen to. It's never too wait, and you wont look back once you get into them. Their concert was still just about the best one I've ever seen, and PJ of course.
Love all the love for Animals!!! Dogs is probably my personal fave.

I agree with this. Animals is my all time favorite, but probably wouldnt start with it.
DSOTM is definitely the one to begin with. This is a good order. Wall or Wish You Were Here --Then id probably go with Meddle.

I happen to love the final cut even though its basically a waters record
You have to really like the band to get into the stuff before atom heart mother.
Dark side through the final cut is the place to start IMHO.
