EDIT:
Ok, this one was really tough, but after much consideration, faceintheclouds is the winner! PM coming your way! Thanks again for all the great ideas everyone!! :D
You could make your own little jars of preserves (can't believe I just used that word. Jam) and call it pear jam. Put your wedding date on em and use them as your table center pieces. Then you gave pearl jam away. :D

And runner up Foos DVD prize goes to molten_toothpaste! PM coming your way also!!

Hi everyone--

Since this community is populated by a lot of cool and very generous people, I've decided to pay it forward with a giveaway.

Me and my wife-to-be are currently planning our wedding for January 2013 and I want to find a way to incorporate Pearl Jam somehow into our big day (short of the band showing up and playing  ) So, to enter, just post an idea of how I could do something Pearl Jam related for our wedding. I'll read these off and my lady will pick her favorite as the winner, then I'll pick the runner up at random.

-Winner will get the "Vs." & "Vitalogy" single disc reissues (with those awesome bonus tracks)
-Runner up will get a copy of the other kick ass documentary of 2011 not called "Pearl Jam Twenty," the Foo Fighters doc "Back And Forth"

The winner and runner up will be picked one week from today, on Monday October 17th. Shipping is on me of course :)

Thanks for joining everyone, and good luck!!!

-John

  • You could try and take a ton of Polaroids of the two of you your friends and families and do a mural where the collection of small pictures makes a big picture all no code style
  • Something simple may be the best like you guys are introduced as Just Breathe plays. Or you can really blow it out, at my wedding we had a huge circle in the middle of the dance floor as "Black" played everyone sang as loud as they could. Great memories best of luck.
  • Great idea

Very awesome giveaway John! Glad this great community has inspired you! Although I all ready have the PJ CDs I would love to be entered for runner up!

As of your wedding you guys can feature some PJ songs in your wedding such as Thin Air or Just Breathe! You can also get even more creative and include some PJ lyrics in your vowels... 8-)

Thanks again John and congrats to you and your new wife!!!

Great giveaway!... My wife and I had Pj music playing low for the whole dinner service... Of course YLB had to be the last song of the night.
    I ain't got no fly'n shoes..

  • There is nothing wrong with Wilco & Ryan Adams though, great stuff.

Pick out your favorite PJ songs to fit different moments of the ceremony/reception and use the Vitamin String Quartet or Piano Tribute versions of the songs. Only discerning PJ fans will pick up on the songs and your guests that are unaware will just think it's nice string music playing.

  • hi..

i have two ideas based on my sister's birthday and a wedding i went on august..

    1) you can give a "newspaper" where you can put some info about you and your couple and, of course, something about pearl jam or maybe a little review of PJ20 and why people MUST see it.

    2) some photo studio, can make a big frame with a big picture made by small pictures..do you know what i mean?
my sister gave the studio a lot of pictures of her and the studio made a gigantic photo totally different made by those photos.
i'm thinking you can take a lot of PJ photos and make they create a photo of you and your wife. that will be awesome!! i'll be doing it if sometime i get married, but i hope no :lol::lol:

    best wishes!! Juan.

    2 Ideas:

1st idea: Photo op - Make a banner that says "PEARL JAM", and have you and your wedding party re-create the "TEN" album cover photo.

2nd idea: Come up with a dream setlist, and have that played throughout the night, including the most amzing and obscure opening song and then of course ending with YLB!

Congrats on the upcoming marriage! :D

I know you said your wife said no PJ at the wedding, but my wife and I had our first dance to EV singing Can't Help Falling in Love with You from the 10th anniversary Vegas show, now I was at the show so there was a good reason for it, but it is such a great song, whether Elvis sings it or EV.

Also, I had two grooms cakes one was chocolate and was the Spin the Black Cirlce Vinyl single complete with the yellow record adapter and the vanilla cake was a three dimensonal baseball with a PJ in the middle of it. Since my initials are PJ, most there thought it was for me, but really it was another tribute to the band.

  • Hi there! First of all congratulations!

    As for my ideia...

    A) Depending on the number of guests/tables, name the tables according to albums or songs, making sure each table has a brief description of the meaning and history of the album/song and how it relates to you,your wife and if possible, your relationship;
    B) Make the reception go by "phases", introducing each one with a video including pictures/videos of you and your wife with adequate Pearl Jam soundtrack, representing the evolution of your relationship.
    C) Last but not least, go old-school and make as gift for each guest a PJ mixed tape :) Side A - from you to your wife and Side B - from your wife to you... You'll spread the love AND Pearl Jam ;)

Cheers and I hope you guys have fun with all the planning!

  • Each table could be themed with a different song, so instead of just using the normal table #'s guest would be sitting at the "Around the bend" or "Into the Moonlight" tables

This is actually quite a hard thing to try and think about. The polaroids is prob a really good idea.

How about doing something really subtle that id you weren't into PJ you wouldn't know. There's a lot of nice artwork out there - PJ themed invitations? I'm thinking maybe some of the EV auz solo posters had some very delicate designs. A small section of one of those down one side of the invite cover (a couple of cm wide) the rest of the invite as standard?

Prob crap idea seeing as I can't remember the designer I was thinking of.

As I listened to the PJ20 soundtrack, I thought the instrumental/demos without lyrics would be perfect background music for something like this. Like when guests are arriving to the service or dinner, etc.
Congrats and best of luck to you both! :D

lots of great ideas so far, so my thought.

how about researching, and seeing if there is a really good pj tribute bands near you, and have them play at your wedding, as the wedding band.

    My ideas are:
    - Mini vinyl records for name cards
    - Cake that has multiple vinyl record tiers
    - Seattle coffee house theme (I actually picked a "latte" color as my theme, bridesmaides wore that color and LOVED it!!!

    - Maybe you can incorporate a flannel design in you tux (i.e., cummerbund)

If it's the cake then you can always get a custom made wedding cake topper. For my wedding we had a Homer and Marge Simpson cake topper (w/o a pregnant Marge ). We found a place online and it was fairly reasonable in price, plus it made our wedding extra special.

Have Pearl Jam on top of your cake!

Here are my ideas for you:
    1. Create a logo with your initials that looks like the PJ one you use as your board pic. You already have the J so most any other letter should work in place of the P. Just place a + or & between the letters so it makes more sense to the guests. The logo can be made into a stamp to make a rough stamping (like the 2000 bootlegs) on your "wedding merch." My wife and I did this with the double happiness Korean symbol.
    2. Make a PJ backdrop where you and your guests can pose with the band. Get pics of each band member's face and place them on a background so they appear to be looking over your shoulders (or dress up dummies with the faces).
    3. No karaoke!
    4. Make a PJ timeline with pics, news, and albums. Have pics of you and her from the same times placed on the timeline, as well with news from that time in your life. This could be like a program that is given out to the guests or a wall-sized piece to decorate the venue.
    5. Serve steaks and chicken with the PJ logo from #1 branded on each. You should be able to get some metal shop to make that for you pretty easily.
    6. Mock-up the PJ stage setup around your main table. Shouldn't be hard to find a drum set, mic stands, a few guitars and stands, some wine for Ed, and Jeffs rug to use.
    7. Have some custom guitar pics made with the logo from #1 on one side and your names and the date on the other. These could be laid out on each table as guest gifts or put into CD cases with a CD with your wedding playlist.
    8. Do one of those custom wines where you can design the label and name it something PJ-related (e.g. Fixer Wedding Red, Faithful Blend, Lucky Leatherman 'lixir, Fixer Elixir) with whatever PJ pic with you two Photoshopped in as the label.

OK. I'm stopping here before I end up at #100. Thanks for the contest. That was fun. I hope you post pics of what you end up doing. Best of luck to you both.
