What an awesome setlist!! The Pumpkins are back!!! Sort of... JEALOUS
  • A set like that looks good in theory but I'd reserve judgement until seeing some clips. Especially the drum heavy stuff like Frail, Pissant and even Ruby. Knowing Corgan he's probably reworked them into some new-style crap. Don't get me wrong, sometimes he re-works them into something genius (e.g. the alt versions of Stumbleine or XYU) and then there's others where he strips away the essence of the song until we're left with an unrecognisable mess (Adore tour version of Bullet, the 2008 heavy version of Daydream).

I hear you. I'm going to the show next Friday and I really don't have any idea what to expect.

2011 has been a very, very good year for me in terms of the quality of shows I've seen. I have yet to see a bad one. The law of averages says that I'm due.

I know a hell of a lot about Jimmy and I've heard a lot of bootlegs with Mike, he is a fantastic drummer and can really keep up with Jimmy...ofc not better but never thought I'd hear someone who could follow him.

Mhm, I dig all the changes tbh, except that Bullet one actually. And To Sheila on the 00 tour.

At least someone knows that he does this..so thank you.

I've been hearing some very good things about the show. A few comments from Hipsters United website:

"The Pumpkins just delivered the most face melting, mind blowing, run me over with a semi-truck 1000 times hard hitting concert I’ve ever ever seen, and I’ve been to my share. The audience AFTER the encore was deafening for what felt like 5 minutes, I almost thought we’d get a 2nd encore. Blissful insanity."

"easily one of the top 3 SP shows I’ve been able to attend out of about 25ish. I felt like I was robbing a bank with this setlist."

"Was there last night, and I have to say, it was the best I’ve seen from the Pumpkins…ever. They were tight, loud, and having fun. Billy looked like he enjoyed playing music more than I’ve ever seen before. He was moving, jumping, pointing to the crowd, interacting with the virtuoso of guitar parts.

Even my wife, who knows nothing of the Pumpkins, but went to the 25th Ann. concert with me, mentioned how much more fun he seemed to be having. Sound-wise, it was ridiculous."

"Was at the show last night, cleary from pics I had posted and such. Can’t stress to everyone how blown away I still am. BEST SET EVER. Billy was so into it as well! Have to say Starla solo was my favorite part, but there were so many amazing parts!"

I'm sure he'll be pretty good either way. I've only seen them once (in 08) and they were great. Just as long as he doesn't get sulky and walk off...

The Daydream '08 version wasn't that bad actually but when he's playing it in front of nearly 20,000 people (most of whom I guessed didn't even know the original version), it just falls flat. That actually reminds me of the new version of Wound from the same tour. Again, great song but I wouldn't have actually recognised it if I didn't know the lyrics well; he turned into into a sludge.

That's positive to say the least. Looking forward to seeing some live clips now.

Hmm...just doesn't seem right seeing this without the original members. I always feel that the first two albums were more of a band effort than the later stuff (even though Billy recorded all the guitar/bass on Siamese) so it seems weird seeing this with this band (especially with no Jimmy). Performance wise it's pretty good though. Corgan raced through the first verse a bit too fast but it can be forgiven. Ironically, I wasn't disappointed with the new band's sound. It just doesn't feel right though if you know what I mean.

The uploader also has some of the new songs from Oceania up as well. Only checked out Panopticon (http://youtu.be/qoPmyFABxZk) which I was impressed with. Hopefully the album will be more of a rocker in the lines of Freak instead of Lightning Strikes (which Billy actually called a rocker :? )

Yes I know what you mean, they play the songs very well but ofc it just isn't the same and James did so much cool shit on his guitar. And obviously the equipment is different.

By the time they take the stage a week from today, Wilco will have sold out three shows in Chicago. That's the kind of thing that gets under Billy's skin so I'm preparing myself for a rant about us not supporting the homegrown talent.

For some reason this brings to mind the time when he called a "random fan" onstage to ask why he wasn't enjoying the show, only for him to berate him for asking for old songs. Of all the things he has done, that must have been the most pathetic.
