I've been researching traveling to alaska - there is a sweet spot where denali river rafting and the train to fairbanks / denali / anchorage is still running mid-late september.  I vote for this and I also would love to see the band in iceland.

mid-september is safe weather wise in some parts of the state.  I was trail running near Anchorage in late September a few years ago and got caught in a quick snow storm.  Wilco are doing 3 shows next spring in Reykjavik.  Might be worth the travel for band to do a similar set.
