Holy shit. You people are making me feel really fucking old.
Never heard of Mother, Dock of the Bay, Fuckin' Up, Love, Reign O'er Me, The Real Me, etc.?
But the reason you're not familiar with them is because radio these days is shite -- pure shite.
+1
I don't even notice people saying they had never heard those songs, I thought they just said they liked PJ's versions better. How does somebody not hear Mother, or any Who tracks from Quadrophenia until just recently?

I agree 110% bro. I cant even listen to the radio without getting P.O.'d and turning that shite off after a couple of Nickleback cloned songs/bands come on. I think, for my own sanity, I'll just stick with my Iphone playlists. Currently listening to alot of Foo, QUOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal and Crooked Vultures(note the theme?) Got a Foo gig Oct. 28, 2011, Cant FN wait!!

OMG  - are you my twin? Apart from PJ they're the only 4 other bands I currently play! What wonderful taste in music you have
Hey Oracle, apart from a couple of my friends in Vancouver I was beginning to think I was alone in this. Thank you for making me feel better. I am doing my best to convert some of my colleagues but its a bit of a battle. They're lost in the world and i will help them find their way.
Yeah, pretty much my thought as well. Man,... what a voice. He makes most songs better, I would even go so far as to say that some PJ songs wouldn't be as good without him. Or with a different vocalist.

You're welcome. I have the same problem with my best mate - he's stuck in the 60's/70's music, which I like too, but he refuses to move on like us enlightened ones . Lucky my niece is into PJ and other rock bands, otherwise it'd be a hopeless cause.
I like PJ's The Who covers better than the originals. I think they sound so great cause PJ really loves the original versions and thus put a lot of passion in their covers. Often I haven't heard the originals of their cover songs before, and if you like something so much that you listen to it again and again and again, it feels awkward listening to another version with another voice. So I do not dive more into the originals. Anyway, by doing awesome covers, they expand my musical horizon and I like that I love this little cover compilation that some people on the boards put together. A cover album would be awesome!
And on a sidenote - except for the Foos my daily playlist is as yours, Oracle and Bennyorr4 You could add the Desert Sessions to that to make it round
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue!

Thank you, how'd I forget that? Just put on The Dessert sessions 9 & 10 CD, (would love PJ to cover 'Covered in Punks Blood') then The Dead Weather's Horehound to finish the day off.

That's a side effect of being a (younger) PJ fan. You get to know the classics... Woe all those poor saps who aren't into PJ...
They normally make great covers. I've told this to my 15yo. His faves are Zep and Floyd. Can't get him into Pearl Jam even though he's been listening to them for years. So I had him watch Fallon with me and PJ does the worst cover I've ever heard them do. The music was great but Eddie was so bad it made me cringe. His lyrics were off, his timing was off, and his emotion was off.
I would love it if they covered
Landslide by Fleetwood Mac the list goes on and on...
Please god noooooooooooooooo, sorry but too many people have covered that, in my opinion, horrible song. I have to hear it way more than I want because the Pumpkins covered it and my favorite radio station seems to love to play it all the time.

I was talking about this yesterday to my friend. When this band decides to do a cover song most of the times they do it better than the original.
And yes!! A cover album would be insane!
PS: for some strange reason, I feel the same way about the covers in Nirvana's MTV Unplugged. They sound WAY better than David Bowie and Meat Puppets.
