I wasn't sure where to post this but because AMT is the first place I've come across the term "WOOT!" in print, I thought I'd ask here:

It just dawned on me (possibly a "duh" moment) that at the end of "Severed Hand" it sounds to me like Eddie yells out "WOOT!"

Am I hearing this right? Do you hear something else?

Also, am I behind the times? (ok let the jokes begin :D ) Is the term "WOOT!" used frequently elsewhere?

I'm sincerely curious- THIS IS NOT A BATING THREAD! so please, can someone answer the question... or be really obvious if just joking? ;)

Thanks!

w00t comes from online gaming, afaik. Supposedly a combination of "wow!" and "loot!" Wow being an expression of joy and surprise, loot being little animated pixels representing online gaming gold or swords, etc.

No problem. For the record, this is the first place I've seen w00t outside of a game (or youtube comments, I suppose), but I do see other game-originated slang outside of games and from non-gamers. E.g., pwned and noob. Usually it's said tongue-in-cheek...but isn't that how it always starts? :D

I was told recently by a board member (who is a bit out of the loop) that Woot had gone out of fashion in 2003.

I felt obliged to inform her that it has now come back into fashion on this board

    WOOT!!

Much older than on line gaming is popular.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I prefer Johnny Lyden's (AKA Rotten's) version of YEEE HAAWW!

    But again, I ask:

It just dawned on me (possibly a "duh" moment) that at the end of "Severed Hand" it sounds to me like Eddie yells out "WOOT!"
