Let me cover you in what I got
here's an old poem that I'm laying upon you
on top of that a watermelon jolly rancher and a picture of basketball
I'll cover you with kisses and haystacks and one ice cream sandwich
this older blanket has been on beds and on picnics
under card games and radios
a frilly white runway for leaves and spills now for you
a tall glass of tea on the table beside you
is yours like the wet cloth making nice on your head
full to your landing and coming your way--
christmas cards not yet sent
a drum-stick party of five
and one goodnight Walton who's named Mary Ellen
last is a katydid
and what we just might
above you are songs we have just not yet written
above you are dreams like the kind when I'm in them
you looking up is like love raining down
what I can cover you with what I am
