Always wondered why Seattle never had an NHL team (also why Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team)

I hope so much that Seattle gets a team!

The only way Seattle should get a team is if a franchise is failing and needs to be moved ... but Quebec city deserves a franchise long before they put a team in Seattle. That being said I think they'll expand by 2 teams in the west to balance the conferences ... which could leave Quebec waiting a while. All adding more teams will do is water the NHL down that much more.

On another note, Canucks grab Ryan Miller, UFA.... $18 million for 3 years?? Wow. He better get a good streak going immediately and never lose it.

He's better than what's currently on the roster.

What do you mean by "deserves"? There are already enough teams over there. I think the northwest really needs one.

Well yeah, of course. But that is a LOT of money to be spending on a goalie unless he's a superstar.

I guess it depends ... if they think they can win with just a little tinkering to the lineup, then this was a signing that makes sense. If they don't think they can win and he's a stop gap during the rebuild then probably a bad signing.

Because even after the novelty wears off Quebec fans will continue to support their team. They didn't lose their 1st team from lack of support ... they lost the team due to NHL economics out of wack. Will Seattle support their team once the novelty wears off? Probably doesn't matter, they'll likely get one at some point.

The economics will go out of whack once again -- probably pretty soon. People cannot help themselves.
The Nords being revived would be cool.

The economics wont/shouldn't get out of whack. Salaries are tied to revenue, which is shared more evenly than before. They just got a $5 Billion dollar TV deal with Rogers, as well as like 9 outdoor games that were all successful. The split between players/owners is closer to 50/50 now. The NHLPA/NHL may squabble over how the pie is distributed next CBA expiration, but overall the league is pretty healthy.
The thing that would hurt the NHL would be if/when the Canadian dollar dips. Especially if Quebec is let back in.
I do think they need to bail on Miami, and also bail on Arizona/Phoenix if the new ownership cant right the ship.

I lived in Seattle for five years. The total number of times that the subject of hockey come up in casual conversation .... zero.

Seattle shits in their collective pants for mid level soccer, I would think they would be stoked for top level hockey. Give them something else to be loud and proud about.

I believe Seattle will/would make a great NHL market. Especially if the NHL beats out the NBA's return there. It seems like it fits in very well with the culture in the Pacific NW.

Many people dont realize Seattle Metropolitans were the first American Team to win The Stanley Cup. Perhaps they will resurrect that name.

The new taxpayer funded Red Wings stadium is basically having a neighborhood built around it at the same time to help keep the riff-raff out. The Illitch family is basically transforming into OCP and building New Detroit.

I guess it will beat having to leave a game at night and then doing a series of shoulder-rolls back to my hotel room to avoid being potentially stabbed.
