If you were the Colts( Manning done)

Would you tank the season( might not have to try)

For

A) Andrew Luck: franchise QB with big upside to play under Peyton for 3-4 years maybe causing a headache as Luck will be ready sooner and Peyton might not wanna hand it off a la Favre/Rogers for a while

Or trade back and load up as there will be huge interest in Luck. Any team really in need of a QB will pay a kings ransom

I didn't see the colts doing a whole lot this year( making the playoffs, maybe 1 and done) but if Manning is able to recover fully it could set them up in his latter years to make some serious runs

  • I say tank it. There's no guarantee Manning will ever play again. Take a shot at Luck and have the insurance policy just in case Manning does come back or gets re-injured next season. It's a huge opportunity, kinda like when the Spurs picked up Tim Duncan.

I say this as someone who lives in Indy and is a huge Chicago Bears fan, but I'm also a big fan of Peyton Manning.

^ nice analogy with Duncan. That too crossed my mind when reading the news this morning

Luck is as close to a sure thing in a long time.

How do you tank a season? Put in your worst players? Football players are going to play their hardest because they want to win and they want to secure better contracts (more money, more years) in the future.

Come December, if the docs say hypothetically he can play 5 or 6 more years, I think you gotta go for rings while you can. There's no guarantees with Luck.

If the prognosis isn't good, I think it comes to an end, and that'll be a sad way for the greatest QB ever to go out.

It sets up pretty good for the Colts either way. They'll have a couple months to really test the health of Manning before they pick up the option. If he's good to go they'll have a great draft spot to trade or use, or if the news is grim they can move on.

As a Colts fan I'm really hopin Manning can come back healthy. They had some really nice high points in the game last night and would prolly be in the top 5 teams in the league with Manning. Wish they wouldn't have wasted the $4mil on Kerry Collins and went with Painter from the start.

So in your mind, this has never ever ever happened before?

Players who keep losing, lose interest. Some, not all are FA's who will work for a contract no doubt. The coaches still play the players and choose the plays.

Why wouldn't you, especially for a franchise that's in SB contention every year Mannings been there.

They are 0-3..... If they bust their ass they might finish 6-10, and that's a huge "IF" more likely finish like 4-12. So the coaches tweek the playbook for a game or 2 and go 2-14, 3-13 securing the #1 pick

It's not that hard and they can be subtle about it

    They suck already
  • tank games? yeah, the season ticket holders will LOVE that! i would hope the players had some pride...

My advice ... start drinking heavily (advice that I followed too closely last night)

I went to bed last night with the realization that Curtis Painter is our starting quarterback ... any cornerback in the AFC South that is in a contract year must be liking their chops.

Does anyone know Jim Sorgi's phone number?

Painter has looked light years better than Collins and they woulda been better off not having a backup than Sorgi when he was around. Painter's not gonna save the season by any stretch, but he's obviously put in as much work as he possibly can. Collins can barely complete a pass.

Collins might actually prove my point ;)

    Weird descision, huh
  • As a Miami fan, I hope the Dolphins go 2-14. Call me what you will, but this team is an elite QB away from contention. Three years from now I see the Phins in the SB!

    Why wouldnt you?

Unless your in the NFC West, your gonna need about 10 to get in. Indy aint goin anywhere, neither is Miami

Its 2012 on their minds. Not a fuckin doubt in my mind. After you suck enough, fans stop coming anyway. Season ticket holders will get over it when Luck is on their side

Speaking as someone who has been a season ticket holder, I know firsthand that the Colts only tank games when an undefeated season is on the line ... :(

Well, that worked out pretty well for them.
