No. Why throw a negative thought in a conservation that was up? I don't get it.

Anyone going out tomorrow for the Record Store Day madness? The charm of this event that I used to think was so awesome has definitely worn off a bit. The camping out, waiting in lines, over-hyping of the event has finally gotten to me.

Sorry, that wasn't very positive! There are some cool events happening in the twin cities. I highly recommend Hymie's - live music, beer, gorgeous weather...should be a good time. I read an article in the Star Trib today with a quote from the Hymie's owner himself that sums up my sentiments...

Ask any record store owner or employee about Record Store Day, and you’ll probably hear a response as heavily mixed as a Kanye West album.

“It’s gotten so janky and ridiculous, it might be overblown at this point,” said Dave Hoenack, co-owner of Hymie’s Vintage Records, referring to the product and hype generated by record labels specifically for Saturday’s 10th annual national celebration of independent shops.

I'll be out and about in St. Paul. Will probably miss out on the "mystery vinyl" though. I won't be waiting in lines either.

I read that article this morning. Funny thing is Hymie's is still participating even though it's gotten all "janky". I do agree that the event is a little ridiculous. But that's part of the appeal for me.

Yeah I remember a few years ago I caught Dave running around the store at RSD, and I asked if he had certain releases... he looked at me like i was crazy, and said "yeah, we don't really get a lot of the exclusive stuff, or care about that." I thought that was dumb at the time, but now I respect it - I think Hymie's is in it for the right reasons. They get a lot of business, but they provide a great experience with the live bands. Just saw on Facebook they have crates and crates of records they're just giving away as well.

Doin' it right. Thanks for keeping it fun, Hymie's!

i'll be out and about. will hit up my usuals- cheapo, agharta and barely bros in st. paul. those are the only definites. i surely won't be waiting in line, though. if you see me, say hello. probably will be going around between 11-2.

i've been down on rsd since about year 3, but i know how important it is to many local stores' bottom lines, and at the core that is what record store day is meant to support. read around online and you can see some stores out there make 30-50% of their yearly profit on this day alone. think about that! so yeah, despite my dislike of the hoopla and bullshit that can surround rsd, i feel it's important to get out there and put some money down and show support, even if i go there at least 2-3x month anyway! it's fun to see people in the shops and generally having a good time.

Regarding record store day, I will quote Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon, "I'm getting too old for this shit."

Anyone going to the Eddie and Pete show? Those prices were crazy. I think $100 tickets are all about gone.
