They had boxes of these available inside the venues after both of the shows I was at. Not a hot item.

I'm sure the band will acknowledge it tonight at their show. Prince and Minnesota will be on their mind in one form or another.

Never been a huge Prince fan, but also not a "non-fan." Just never gave him a solid listen, beyond his hits. Yet, given his guitar prowess and penchant for funk, I always suspected he was someone I could get into.

I've been listening to the one Prince record I have, Around the World In A Day, and my suspicion was correct. Some really good stuff on there ("Paisley Park," "Pop Life," "The Ladder").

RIP Prince. Wish I had dug you sooner.

I live in Winnipeg, but frequent Minneapolis often as I am a Vikings season ticket owner, and I fell even more in love with the city as I watched thousands of people poor into the streets to sing Purple Rain last night. Incredible.

Big fan here, just not loud enough. Went to the all night dance party and it was awesome.. only danced until 2am, while there were plenty of people on the outside still waiting to come in! Very magical night and weekend in general. Glad I saw him at Paisley Park 10+ years ago.. wish I would've pushed for another chance during the many opportunities this past year. Such is life though, which is why you gotta do things NOW, as they happen (hence why I went to the dance party even though I'm due to have a baby in 6 weeks!.. now I have a story to tell the babe). Also why we do the thing things we do to get to Pearl Jam shows!

for the prince celebration, i made it downtown when lizzo was singing the beautiful ones and caught the purple rain finale. we tried to get close to the door to first ave for the dance party but that wasn't happening. went over to mackenzies to wait it out and hope we could get in a little later, but by 2am there was still a crowd outside waiting to get in so we called it a night. was fun to be a part of, though. we also went down to the purple rain screening at target field station on saturday. that was cool, too. so was seeing the skyline lit in mostly purple.

i think it's safe to say there was no one like him.

I was up by the far right door under the "record room" star. The secret to that spot was this..I got there around 9.. entered through the block party because I thought that was the only way, but then my sister in laws said the were right by the Prince star, so I somehow managed to swqueeze through the crowd (probably took a half hour), then found them in the front behind the stage. At that point, the front doors weren't crowded yet because people were distracted by the block party. SO, we just hunkered down in front of the doors where a few others were doing the same thing. Then after the block party ended, it started getting more and more crowded and stuffed. Woof.. crazy. We went not knowing what to expect.. glad we didn't assume there was no way we'd get close. This was the first time First Ave did something like this.. no organized line to get in. The only thing keeping it from a tidal wave to get in was that they had to check ID's and hand out wristbands. Once inside.. it wasn't bad at all.

OH and around 1:30, First Ave was passing out pancakes! fun surprise indeed.. very appropriate.

two of my friends did the exact same thing. they got there around the same time you did and just ended up by the doors while everyone else was watching the show. we tried to connect with them but where we came in from hennepin/7th and with it being close to 10 and the end of the live set, we just couldn't get through the crowd at all. they ended up going in (and sent us a pic of the dance floor while people were streaming in) while we went over to the bar. they came out just before one and met up with us saying there was still a giant crowd outside. we waited another hour only to find the crowd was still there and decided it wasn't meant to be.

glad you got in! i'm sure it was a blast. wish i could have seent it.

The crowd outside was soooo thick.. It was just crazy. At least you have your story of the block party and being part of the experience. worth everthing!
