All Right. So I bought a Benny Hall vinyl about a month ago on Ebay cause I wasn't a 10c member when they came out in 04. I bought it sealed in the original 10c box that it was shipped in. I decided it would be cool to make it a special night with my wife (who is almost as big a PJ fan as me) light some candles, 2 bottles of wine and open the album to enjoy it. Best decision ever. Is it me, or does the vinyl sound better than any CD???? We had a great night together. She even did a goddamn hoedown when 25 minutes to go came on (done with 2 bottles of wine done by then) The sound was flawless and I pity anyone who is holding on to sealed version hoping it will gain in value. You are really missing out. I can't wait to listen again soon. just thought I would share my Friday night with everyone. It was a great night.

I don't own any vinyl. Wish I did. I would love to give it a listen.

As for your pity. I would suggest you give that to someone more deserving. I doubt that those that make a choice to keep it sealed really need any from you.

P.S. Sounds like a great night and you are doing the proper thing with your vinyl for yourself.

That's what vinyl is for! So glad you're enjoying it. :)

i kept my vinyl sealed for quite a while so I am not judging anyone who does. i just feel, for me, it was a great decision to open it and enjoy it. If you want to keep it sealed, best of luck to you. I know now all this time I was missing out. That's all I'm saying. To each his own.

sorry about the bug up my butt. You are right in general. Just seems there is a holier than though attitude that permeates about these types of things.

Someday when I'm not broke as a joke I hope to have two copies of every vinyl. One for a collection, and one to listen to.

  • The only reason I haven't opened any of my Pearl Jam vinyl is because I've heard them all and they sound just like the CD's. There is very little difference. So they're not really worth opening if you're planning on selling them for a little dough someday. This isn't always the case though. RHCP vinyl, for example, is LIGHT YEARS better than the CD. It depends on the group, record label, etc...

really? do you have a decent turntable and sound system?

i think all of their records save Ten sound light years better on vinyl. especially No Code, Vitalogy, Yield and Binaural.

oh and Avocado sounds pretty decent on Vinyl too.

of course i spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much on my system and turntable.

but i can hear a BIG difference.

Yes, I have a good system. There is nothing significantly different about PJ vinyl. It may sound "different" because of the format, and therefore "better" to you, but there really is little difference in the mastering. "Avocado", for example, is just as compressed and squished and brittle as the CD. It could have been SO much better.

hmm wasnt trying to slight your system or anything. ive just heard people say they cant tell the dif. when they are playing it on a 100 dollar sony table.

i guess its all in the ear, cause i hear a big dif. in Vitalogy and No Code the most.

guess we all hear shit different lol.

I have the Vincent SA-T1 Pre Amp. Awesome pre amp! I love mine!

How do you like the SPT-100 monoblocks? I've been thinking of getting them some time. But not sure I want to pull the trigger.

How do they do powering those Helicon 400s?

I envy you cropduster.l As a college student, I could never drop that kind of dough on a Benaroya Vinyl, even though I want to. That sounds like the perfect night, and I'm glad you could enjoy the show. I just dream of the night when I can buy that, take a Friday night, get a bottle of wine, and just listen. Someday!
