WOW! Exciting! I just got my first official invite to show my wares in public...without my soliciting anyone! BIG Step for me :):):)

http://www.etsy.com/shop/CelticKettle?ref=si_shop ~~ AND ~~ http://www.etsy.com/shop/HempyHippie?ref=si_shop ~~ I wonder which Me they want?

just perfect timing too cuz I'm about to embark on painting bottles for the Holidays this weekend. And I have some canvases piled up that I am intent on filling this month

Now I need advice....its a show....and I can sell stuff....how in the world do I price things....Etsy is one thing...but THIS is in public.... advice anyone? (and you know me......possibly :D )
peace,
jo

  • COngrats Jo!!! I just recently showed some of my art in public as well...it was nerve racking! I'd suggest basing your prices on the expected clientel. If you really want to make some $, price cheap. If you dont care either way, price it a little high. But always keep in mind that this is YOUR ART so dont compromise your integrity to make a quick buck...just my two cents. Have fun, hope all goes great and keep us all posted :P

    thanks for the advice jamie

how did your showing go? i bet its a little bit scary isn't it? at least for the first time.
i don't mind putting my stuff online..cuz you don't come face to face with anything or anyone that might make you feel a little iffy, you know? but...geez.... like you said, just have to remember its my art...and it makes me happy....and its got worth....and at least i know i'm doing well on etsy and other online places, so i guess it makes other people happy too :D

i'd love to see more of your work....got pics? PM me if you do :D

    thanks for the encouragement

  • Hey, StillHere. Congratulations! Love the skull... beautiful and quirky!

Really, in terms of pricing your work, the general rule is to balance the length of time it takes to create the piece, material costs and also your place in the art world (i.e. newbie: low, Picasso: high). It's still a hard thing to do... I price my work on a gut feeling (realistically how much could I bare to let it go for) and also where do I sit in the art world... pretty low :)

Hope this helps! And good luck for the show... you'll be nervous but you'll be able to look back on it as an exciting experience... which will hopefully happen again!

Also, he.who.forgets... love your photography too!

This is me by the way... http://www.stephenwhatcott.com
