I’ve always been curious about this and it wasn’t mentioned in PJ20…
Obviously mother love bone had a major record deal but there hasn’t been much said about how PJ got theirs? Was it a given that Jeff & Stone’s new band had a deal with Sony/Epic, just needed a singer?
Like….. did Eddie know he was coming into a new signed band that will record, tour, release a record etc? Or was it more they earned it after witnessing their first few shows and demos?

Though I’m glad they were not in the film, it would be really interesting to hear from the sony reps that were involved at this time.

  • IHO they had to earn it. i doubt they rode on MLB's coattails. Sure having talented guys like Stone and Jeff were big help but I don't know of a single song that was a MLB song that made it on a PJ album.

I could be wrong. Just never saw it as a done deal before PJ came together.

  • it's all in the book.
    nothing as it seems.....
  • Mother Love Bone was on Warner Bros. TOTD on Geffen and PJ on Epic/Sony

they had to shop a demo and find a label, I am sure the connections they already had made in the industry did not hurt and perhaps fast tracked a deal.

Its all documented in Five Against One. From what I remember Stone and Jeff had a hard time gettin out of their record contract signed when in Mother Love Bone.
